Sophie Eastlake, is as always amazing. And that is where everything else goes wrong. This is installment is unnecessary. It adds nothing to the series, is boring does not do either of the lead characters any justice. They deserved better. The attraction seemed forced. The sex, was at best boring and the play with BDSM was dismal. Wanted to love this as much as the rest of the series. Wish I had skipped it.
this love story did not draw me in. Their love seemed forced. He wants to have sex with her, she denies him and years later she runs to his aid when he is in trouble because she loves him. I could never get invested in their story. The story just dragged on and on. It adds nothing to the series.
This seemed more like a space filler than a real stand alone story. The female lead was boring. She obtained a job under the wrong reasons. What was worst, to be in the middle of a big vampire war, no one checked her out. The simply relied on the information on her application. The vampires made stupid decisions that endangered all their lives. I don't feel this story was well thought out.
The narrator was just not good. I have heard better accents in previous books. Some of the characters who should have accents did not. At one point the the Spanish shifter spoke with the highlander's accent. I was not sure that I heard it correctly so I rewound just to make sure. I hope she is not narrating any other books. I may have to go back to reading rather than listening.
It was a great end to a wonderful series. I hate to see it end but am very glad it was so well done.
I have read several other Sarah McCarty books and thought this would be as good. I am utterly disappointed. The characters are flat. The story is difficult to follow. The female lead is annoying. Even the sex is a let down. I never thought sex could be so boring. I just wanted them all to walk into the sun and end my misery. I am a paranormal romance fan but this I could not stomach. The rest of the series will have to go on without me.
I may have been able to enjoy this book had it not been for the narrator. The entire book is read in a monotone. I hope this narrator is NOT reading any of the other books in this series.
