  • Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs)
    • By H. P. Mallory
    • Narrated By Allyson Ryan

Life isn’t bad for psychic Jolie Wilkins. True, she doesn’t have a love life to speak of, but she has a cute house in the suburbs of Los Angeles, a cat, and a quirky best friend. Enter Rand Balfour, a sinfully attractive warlock who insists she’s a witch and who just might turn her life upside down. Rand hires her to help him solve a mystery regarding the death of his client who also happens to be a ghost. Jolie not only uncovers the cause of the ghost’s demise but, in the process, she brings him back to life!

What disappointed you about Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble?

First off, the narrator is good, so that is not a problem. What sucks is the heroine. She is one of those characters that make you yell out loud,"OH, COME ON". I had to leave this story more than a couple of times because of how mad she made me. She just kept doing stupid stuff. She didn't think a lot (doofus). Even though she admitted she was doing magic, she kept stating that she wasn't a witch. Really? I don't know how others can like this book, but I have to say that I have a lot of serious problems with it.

What could H. P. Mallory have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Have a better heroine. But since this is a series that is already written, nothing.

Have you listened to any of Allyson Ryan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but she's not the one that made this book disappointing.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble?

The accepting of the invitation to the ball, and the ball. The author could have found another reason for Jolie to be outed.

    Any additional comments?

Just so disappointed. I really wanted to like this book, and have a new series to listen to.

  • New Beginnings: Others of Edenton, Book 0.5

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Brandy L. Rivers
    • Narrated By Kelley Hazen Storyteller Productions

Jess knew her life would never move forward if she remained a part of Gregory's pack. Some alphas don't know how to take care of their wolves. She had managed Gregory's bar for years, but she knew he would never sell it to her. After one giant mistake, he went from bad to worse. As a psychic she knew it was a downward spiral.

Taking her future in her own hands, she contacted the alpha in Edenton. He was happy to sell the empty bar that no one had the time or desire to renovate, much less run.

Narrator not so much. She was ok when reading in her own voice. When she was doing the women's voices, so annoying.

  • Walking Wolf

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Nancy A. Collins
    • Narrated By Mike Gurdy

Walking Wolf is the orphaned son of white settlers, found as an infant and raised to be a proud Comanche warrior. He also happens to be a werewolf. When he loses control of his darker nature, Walking Wolf heads out into the White Man's world to learn more about who - and what - he is. This is his story of self-discovery as he travels the Old West, crossing the paths of deranged serial killers, a traveling medicine show, a vampire gunslinger, even a fellow werewolf, as well as such historical figures as Quanah Parker and Sitting Bull.

What disappointed you about Walking Wolf?

I couldn't even finish the book, because the narrator is awful

Has Walking Wolf turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I love this author. I wish her Sonja Blue books were on audible. The narrator made this book one of my worst audiobook experiences.

Would you be willing to try another one of Mike Gurdy’s performances?

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I will probably purchase the written version so that I can try to enjoy it. But I will never finish it by listening to it, unless it's re-released with another narrator.

    Any additional comments?

Don't let this narrator read anymore books.

Robin in Vermont says: "A compelling read!"
"Love the Series. Please do the rest!! Good Narrator"
Would you listen to Blood Wager again? Why?

I already read the series over and over again. If they keep the same narrator, I'll purchase them all. I'll purchase them anyway.

What did you like best about this story?

The heroine, and the storyline. Connie Suttle has the history for her characters down pat.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Lissa was helping Weldon, the Grand Master, when he was being attacked.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Blood Destiny, which is the name of the series

    Any additional comments?

Please Audible do the whole series?
P.S. and the connecting series': Legend of the Ir'Indicti, High Demon, The God Wars, and Saa Thalarr.
