I read the other reviews and it looks like I may be in the minority when I say I enjoyed this book. I love Highlandner books and this one was 8 hours that filled the need on a rainy day. I thought it was actually refreshing to listen to a highlander book that didnt have a lot of fighting. Magnus is a lover not a fighter. My kind of guy.
Maybe its just me but I don't always have the time or patience to listen to a 32 hour book like Outlander. Dont get me wrong, Outlander is a great book, its just most of the time I want a simple escape - not one that is filled with so much detail.
I also thought the narrator did a good job. She did remind me of Davina Porter a lot so that might be why. I will definately listen to the next book in the series.
Kathryn Le Veque has written a gripping story that grabs your attention from the beginning and never lets you down. This book was so emotionally riveting to me that at one point I literally threw my ipod down! Of course, I picked it back up... but the point is.... I've never done that before with a book. It was THAT emotional to me. This book kept me guessing along the way and was funny, sad, emotional, and real. The characters were all wonderfully written.....especially the ones that I didn't like!
Narration was perfect. He added to the excitement. There are, however, quite a few narration editing mistakes throughout this book. Hopefully, this will be corrected soon.
Just a note: This book had some violence and detailed sex scenes.
This one is definitely on my repeat and recommendation list!
If you are looking for a Highland story that is filled with fierce Highland warriors and damsels in distress then pass on this one because this book goes in a totally different direction.
At first I thought "Dear God, what did I get into" because I was not expecting a story that was silly, funny, and, at times, a little off the wall. As story progresses, you see our heroine, Hope, who is mischievous beyond belief and our hero, Leonce, who has to have the patience of a Saint to handle Hope's antics and her past that was filled with murder, deceit, and abuse. This is the kind of story that is cute, funny, and endearing.....yet sad at the same time.
This definitely was an unexpected change of pace for me and I bloody well enjoyed the silly fun. 4.5 Stars. Narration was great too.
Many series books tend to be disappointing because the first book is great and the remaining books fall short. This series, however, delivers great stories, history, and memorable characters.
After listening to all 3 books in this series, I think I enjoyed the third book "Ride The Fire" the best. I'm not exactly sure why....I think maybe because the ending sums up everyone's life and I really didn't want it to end. Plus, I love Kaleo Griffith's narration.
If you love Historical romances - this series is a winner. ;-)
This second book in the series continues with the Blakewell/Kenleigh Family and features Jamie and Brighid. This book is filled with Irish, English, and American History that surrounds an unforgettable story filled with courage, suspense, loyalty, romance, and love.
If you love historical romances with a great story then give this series a try. I highly recommend any book by Pamela Clare.
How did I miss this Pamela Clare Trilogy? I don't know but I'm better late than never!
Pamela Clare's writing always has detailed history, emotional story, tender romances, and memorable characters. Kaleo Griffith's narration adds so much dimension to her stories. He manages to give each character a unique voice and his inflections are spot on. Love this author/narration combination.
I will be listening to the others in this trilogy because PC's books get better as the series progresses. I've never been disappointed with her books. :-)
I have listened to many of Kathryn Le Veque's books and she always writes interesting stories that are emotionally charged. You can always count on her books to be filled with true to life dialog with believable challenges along the way. This book also has light humor to keep you smiling. The narration of Brad Wills adds emotion and excitement to this Medieval tale.
I recommend this story to those who enjoy a good story along with a sweet romance. ;-)
For those of you who read my reviews - you know I love Laura Kinsale's Books. Whenever one of her books comes to Audible I have to listen. I was anticipating her usual greatness for this book but I have to agree with Cam and say its not my cup of tea either.
It wasn't a total loss though. I'm convinced that LK,, even in her worst day, couldn't ever write a total dud. This book did have a good character development, story, mystery, and Nicholas Boulton narrating. I've always said he could make an okay book even better and this is proof.
If this one goes on sale give it a try. My advise for now: Listen to LK's other books and enjoy!
This first book in the Douglas Legacy series is a dramatic, well paced Scottish historical romance. It delivers a true "Scottish era" tale of Alison and David. Alison is a gutsy young woman who was married at 13 to a dishonorable man. Enter David, a determined Laird, who captures her castle, lands, and her heart. This story has just enough passion, danger, courage, and vengeance to keep any historical romance enthusiast entertained.
I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. ;-)
I almost passed on this second book in the ‘Clan Grant’ series because the ratings were all over the scale, but I’m glad I took a chance.
This book is different than many Highlander stories in that it concentrates more on issues within the clan rather than Highland battles between clans. Its a touching story with many heartwarming scenes that, unless your heart is made of stone, are sure to bring a tear to your eye.
Quade is Laird to his clan and deeply loves his family. Brenna is a revered and dedicated healer who doesn’t back down from a challenge. Their romance is sweet and progresses into a deep and tender love. The secondary characters add charm, wit, and many poignant moments to this emotional story.
This one is worth a try if you enjoy tender—heartwarming stories. ;-)
Vonda Sinclair delivers a delightful first book in the Highland Adventure Series. I appreciate Ms Sinclair’s descriptive writing style. This is a book that is written not only with words but with feeling.
This is the story of a widower, Alasdair, a strong and compassionate Highland Laird, and Gwyneth, a determined and passionate English Lady who happens to be a healer. Their relationship is built on indebtedness and progresses to a love full of sensuality and chemistry. This couple is very compatible…..in more ways than one!
If you enjoy Highland historical love stories then you will enjoy this one. I'm looking forward to the remainder in this series.
