The green and gold of France during a hot August is poignantly remembered by Cecil, the middle sister of a family of English children on holiday in the champagne country of the Marne. The sudden illness of their mother means the children are left to deal as best they can with the hostile, mysterious, but entrancing world of the Hotel des Oeillets.

"Lovely Evocation of a Long-Ago Summer in France"
    Overall

I listened to this on vacation and, for me, it captured the lazy light of summer. The narrator is excellent. If you know a little French, it adds to the fun. I loved the characterization of the children, especially the storyteller Cecil, who is hovering that summer between being a child and an adult.
