Her name is Clara Rinker, a southern woman, trim, pleasant, attractive, and the best hit woman in the business. She isn't showy; she just goes quietly about her business, collects her money, and goes home. It's when she's hired for a job in Minnesota that things become complicated for her. A defense attorney wants a rival eliminated, and that's fine. But then a witness survives, the attorney starts acting weird, this big cop Davenport gets on her case, and loose ends begin popping up faster than on an unraveling sweater

I love John Sandford's Prey books, especially the narrated versions because Richard Ferrone is awesome.
One of the reasons I like this book because it introduces Clara, a complex and memorable character. The part about the story I don't care for is the woman who hired Clara. She was a real piece of work. She changed her mind all the time and I was disappointed that Clara went with her crazy ideas so often. Other than that, this is another case where Lucas Davenport goes after the killer with a vengeance. His stubbornness is classic in this book: he suspected the source of all this killing before others saw it. Worthy addition to the Prey series.

Death awaits the curious! Out along the rim of the galaxy hangs a loose configuration of some 60 stars known as the Faustian Chain. This whorl of sparkling suns is rich in planets and occupies an irregular volume of space some 20 light years in diameter. From an external viewpoint, the Chain presents a colorful display of plasma-streams, luminous nebulae and sparkling pinpoints of light.

I am a major B. V. Larson fan and have listened to over a dozen of his books, but I couldn't get into this one. I like fantasy a lot, I even write fantasy stories, but to me, this story didn't make sense. I won't be able to finish it.

When Quentin Draith wakes up in a private sanatorium, he has no memory of who he is or how he received the injuries riddling his body. All he knows is that he has to get out, away from the drugs being pumped into him and back to the real world to search for answers. His first question: How did his friend Tony’s internal organs fill with sand, killing him in a Las Vegas car crash? After a narrow escape, he tracks down the basic facts: He is an investigator and blogger specializing in the supernatural - which is a good thing, because Quentin’s life is getting stranger by the minute.

I loved this book. This new series could be Larson's best (although I really like the Undying Mercenaries series too). In Technomancer, I liked the characters, the plot, and the subplots. Plus, Christopher Lane did a great job with the narration, making the different characters easily recognizable. I could listen to him read all day.

Okay, now I can't wait for the next book in the series. B. V. Larson is a prolific writer, which is most excellent, but too bad he can't publish a new book every week. I could go for that!

Eric can't remember the recurring dream that keeps waking him in the middle of the night with an overwhelming urge to leave, yet he spends each day feeling as if he desperately needs to be somewhere. With no idea how to cure himself of this odd compulsion, he decides to let it take its course and go for a drive, hoping that once he proves to himself that there is nowhere to go, he can return to his normal life.

The book started out well enough, but couldn't maintain the tempo or interest level. For the most part, the story didn't make any sense to me. Plus I didn't care for all the constant phone calls between the protagonist and his wife. I just wanted the story to "get with the program" - but alas, it never did. I like speculative fiction, but not this one.

John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First, he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce - and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So, we fight, to defend Earth and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.

I love this book. I've read it and heard it numerous times and have often recommended the book to anyone who reads. Scalzi wrote a great story with Old Man's War and Wm Dufris did an awesome job of narrating it.

Because of this book I became a "Scalzi" fan. This is a great series. I've also enjoyed other Scalzi books, including Fuzzy Nation.

The Galactics arrived with their Battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined a vast Empire that spanned the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder. In the third book in the series, James McGill is deployed on another alien world. His third interstellar tour is different in every way. Rather than meeting up with a primitive society, this time he’s headed to an advanced world.

I enjoyed Book 1 of Undying Mercenaries well enough to purchase Book 2. Even though I didn't care as much for Book 2, I wanted to give the series another try by purchasing Book 3.
    I'm glad I did!

Book 3 has a great plot and memorable characters. I enjoyed this book so much I'll be listening to it again, soon. I have already recommended it to my sci-fi reading friends. In addition, Mark Boyett did a masterful job of narration. Now I'm ready for Book 4.

What a unique beginning! And from there I found the book interesting all the way through. Never a dull moment. Believable interaction between the Star Force leaders and among the warriors too. Good detail for the aliens. Wonderful narrator.

I realize BV Larson has been writing for some time, but this is my first exposure to his books. As soon as I finished Swarm I ordered the next two in this series.

The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson, Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.

He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was...something smelled bad - like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to 15 bodies and counting.

I love John Sandford's Prey books. I have listened to all of them more than once. Lucas Davenport is such a great character - both believable and likeable. Richard Ferrone, the voice of Lucas Davenport, is perfect for these books. Field of Prey has some nail-biting, hair-raising twists and turns. What an amazing story.

Sandford is a great thrillmaster. Every year I look forward to another Prey book, and I hope there are many more.

It took me awhile to finish this book because I kept expecting more action, but then I usually listen to thrillers. However, the book was interesting enough and the narrator was good. I thought the most outstanding part of the book was the epilog. I enjoyed the intrigue in this section along with the condensed activity, plus the ending certainly laid a solid foundation for the next book in the series.
