Wouldn't listen to this again, but was an interesting audiobook the first time through. Had no real preconceptions going in except for some movie ads..... I get the feeling the movie version is a whole different story than this audiobook. And it sucked that it was an abridged version and the jumping around from country to country, account to account was a bit disjointed for me. Don't go into this audiobook thinking you'll be following Brad Pitt around during heroic zombie battles to save his family....you'll be disappointed.
This is probably one of the most interesting books I've listened to so far. I knew some history of the Manson family, but this books really pulls you in and you get to know everyone involved in the family. You just can't imagine the horror those victims went through...and the details of what the Manson family did to them all was unbelievable. Really horrible story, but what an explanation of the events!
probably not. I have never really been into sci-fi but was told this book would change my perspective on that....and with the upcoming movie, I thought this would be great. Not my bag. My husband read the book and really like it, but it really didn't do much for me.
Sure - I am a huge Stephen King fan and although I felt this fell short of his normal perfection, it was still an enjoyable listen to this summer.
Although the end was somewhat predictable, still had a bit of a twist.
This book got so much hype before it came out claiming to be the next
different narrator would've helped, but still wouldn't get it up to a 4 or 5 for me.
I just found the overall story uninteresting. I did not connect with any of the characters -- I tried the 2nd book in the series thinking I'll give it another chance for character development and better story....nope. Ditched the 3rd and moving on with my life. Waste of time listen for me.
Jake/George -- likable guy you'd want to hang out with.
sucks as Sadie
the end was a little corny...but I still LOVED it :) How do you not love anything Stephen King has his hands on?
I have loved Stephen King stories since I was a kid. Though I'm partial to his more horrific novels, this one was a nice change. I felt like I was actually running around with Jake/George throughout the story it was so realistically told (typical Stephen King drawing me so deep into his stories I have nightmares....I LOVE it!). The narrator was a bit annoying as Sadie but it did not distract me much from the overall enjoyment of the story - though he was a great voice for Jake/George. Stephen King is a genius and thank him for continuing to produce such brilliant work. Listen to his afterword at the end of the story...has some nice dedications and more insight into the topic of the book.
what an interesting perspective this story is written from - so different than the other books I've read lately. Great character development and you really have feelings towards the characters..good and bad.
definite must read. I cant wait to get in my car each day to hear a little more!
