The James Herriott books are all some of my all-time favorites. If you are looking for a "real" story that reads like fiction, but is based on this man's extraordinary life, you will thoroughly enjoy this book.
I generally love books by Ken Follett, but this one falls way short of his other works. The narration was excellent though.
Yes, definitely. Maybe because this book was started when Follett was much younger, the plot and character development are not as well done as in other works. I have loved other Follett books and will definitely listen to others.
Loved Alyana and Tom Builder - both very real and believable characters.
Maybe... it would be tough to get the real gist of the entire story in one movie though.
The last half of the book has been really tedious. It seems that he is making bad things happen at every possible opportunity but is missing out on some key character development and story development. Would have loved to learn more about the actual building of the cathedrals. Waaayyyy too much raping and pillaging in this story, and entirely too much of the same descriptions of the characters. William is really bad, Phillip is really good, Richard has potential to be good, but is a numb nut in the end. Overall, I was really disappointed in the book.
A very young listener might enjoy this one. The science is bad, the story is bad and the narrator is bad.
The narrator was awful. His reading style was extremely distracting and fake sounding.
Disappointment, irritation, disbelief
I don't usually write reviews, but had to take a minute to warn people not to waste their credits. The story was poor, the writing was bad and the narrator was just awful. Very disappointing.
This is a great sci-fi book. The feel of it reminded me of "Ender's Game" which I loved and have listened to twice. I was thoroughly engrossed througout the story. Only once or twice did it seem like it meandered a bit, but overall it was a great listen.
I really enjoyed this story... very imaginative. Lots of story lines that meander a little at times but come together nicely to make an outstanding book. I will listen to it again.
This is one of my all-time favorite books. The story is almost intoxicating. I've listened to it twice and read it twice. Its also a wonderful read for book clubs. Lots to discuss!
Dreadfully boring. There is a murder somewhere in the story, but there is so much rambling about other story lines that the reader loses touch with what the story is about. Don't bother with this one. Its all I can do to finish listening to it.
