Lucia Lucia is beautifully narrated and is hard to turn off. I didnt want it to end and yet I listened to it voraciously. It takes a bit to make me emotional, but this book really pulled at my heart strings. Listen to this book while taking a long walk, and you'll barely know you've exercised.
So this isn't the most intellectual work of fiction, but it is a fun listen. The setting is vibrant and amusingly shallow. If you like a 'sex in the city' / harlequin style read then you'll enjoy this book. It could have been edited more and at times leaves built up events too quickly. However, overall I enjoyed this book and didn't want it to end.
This book delves into the theme of whether or not to become a parent. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the ending leaves you hanging which was frustrating. It's an OK listen. The characters are interesting but could have been explored with a little more depth. The problems encountered by the main character and her sisters did hold my attention but I did get a little annoyed with their reactions - they seemed flighty to me. Overall, an easy and intersting listen but not as challenging or deep as it could have been.
This is a really interesting biography. If you're into Plath then this is a great listen. A little on the long side, but it does go into depth about the relationship between Hughes and Plath without a great deal of bias. This book shares a side of Plath not seen in other bios. Recommended.
Set in Venice, this story leaves a lingering taste of imagery and characters. The main tale is interrupted and enhanced by another minor tale which at times is intriguing but can sometimes be confusing. It is an enjoyable listen, especially if you're interested in art, history and Venice.
Tucan Soup isn't the most challenging book to listen to, but it is an easy and enjoyable read. The characters are captured vividly by the narrator, making the tale both moving and pretty funny. The book does have depth, and I was sad to reach the end of the novel.
Holy Cow is a fantastically funny listen. It is vivid in its descriptions of the sounds, sights and especially smells of India. It inspires you both to go there and enjoy home, at the same time. If you love travel writing which attempts to get to the heart of culture and the person taking the journey, get this book. It's one of my all time favourites.
