  • Kid Rex: The Inspiring True Account of a Life Salvaged from Despair, Anorexia and Dark Days in New York City

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 12 mins)
    • By Laura Moisin
    • Narrated By Arielle DeLisle

After knowing friends with anorexia and being baffled by their behavior, Laura Moisin suddenly found herself prone to the same disease - not eating at all and going weeks at a time consuming nothing but water and the occasional black coffee. Deceiving therapists by misleading them with symptoms of depression, her anorexia is prolonged, and her health deteriorates rapidly.

Can I give this negative stars?

I've read many books from this genre. This one made me angry, and as I continued to listen I felt less and less empathetic for the author. I hate to be so negative, but the only good thing about this book was when I was finished with it. In hind-sight I should have cut my losses and saved myself the time.

It was only personally interesting in that what evoked as I continued through the chapters was anorexia schadenfreude. This author has so many character flaws and delusional selfish views in her pretentious little bubble of a polished world, I was honestly happy when she got kicked out of NYU, and then got hit by a car. Awful, right? Who thinks that way? I'm honestly a very nice person. I swear.

Blah, blah, NY, Manhattan, Self-contradiction, boo-hoo, blah.

"Inadequate in Audio Format. No supplement offered."

I was super excited about this book, but in the end was disappointed that there was no supplement to the audio book. Really, how is this unabridged? Complete sections are missing.

Eric makes a lot of references to items that appear in the print edition and there's no option for those of us who purchased the audio-book to understand unless we supplement this book with a purchase of a print edition also.

Having said that, I did enjoy the material and I did pick up a thing or two from listening to it. Overall however I was just annoyed. I wish I had purchased the print edition rather than this audio-book. Hopefully, you can learn from my mistake.

  • A Place of Yes: 10 Rules for Getting Everything You Want Out of Life

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Bethenny Frankel
    • Narrated By Bethenny Frankel
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Bethenny Frankel's no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is personality won over countless fans, and made her a nationally best-selling author and the star of her own hit Bravo show Bethenny Getting Married? Now Bethenny opens up and shares the obstacles she overcame and the great success she has enjoyed while discovering how to approach life from “A Place of Yes”.

jen says: "What is your tolerance level?"
    "Wrong Category Perhaps"

This book was far more Memoire/Bio than Personal Development. Most of the content is Bethenny's retelling of her personal life, which is fine, but I was expecting the content to be more general and focused on how to directly apply certain strategies like her previous books. This book is 80-85% about Bethanny's life and 15-20% focused on Personal Development items that the reader/listener might apply.

If you are a huge Bethenny fan and want to know more about the finer personal details of how she became a successful entrepreneur and reality TV star - this book is definitely for you. It does feel, like another reviewer here wrote, like your girlfriend is sharing the intimate details of her life with you. However, if you are more interested in the Personal Development aspect and were hoping this would be inspirational or provide some process or set of guidelines you might apply to your own business or career I would suggest another selection. I felt a little cheated and annoyed when I got half-way through and still didn't feel like I was getting anything but a detailed timeline of Bethenny's life.

Jilian Michaels new book, "Unlimited" was more along the lines of what I was expecting from this. The two are in the same genre here but very very different in their focus and application. I would also suggest anything and everything from Brian Tracy if you are looking for something to get fired up about and take things to the next level for yourself. Note: I am an unashamed and voracious Personal Dev junkie and I have most of the titles that you'll see when you visit that front category page here on audible. I have listened to them all (some multiple times to take notes). Huge Personal Dev nerd here :o)

I would not have purchased this title if I knew that it was loaded with personal anecdotes and detailed information on every man Bethenny has dated for the past two decades or how she rose to the top in spite of her upbringing. Certainly Bethenny is successful. She's gorgeous, well spoken, and competitive. I was expecting more from this book. It lacks focus and falls short. Her Naturally Thin/Skinny Girl books, however, are 5 stars. I am still a fan, but this book, if it were physical would go into my donate pile.

  • Holiday Classics by O. Henry

    • UNABRIDGED (51 mins)
    • By O. Henry
    • Narrated By Katherine Kellgren, Oliver Wyman, Jonathan Davis

When it comes to the holidays, no story brings us back to the true spirit of giving like O. Henry’s classic "The Gift of the Magi". So this year we’ve asked some of your favorite Audible narrators—Audie Award winners Katherine Kellgren, Oliver Wyman, and Jonathan Davis—to bring to life this timeless tale, plus two more of O. How did you know that this is exactly what I wanted. Thanks Audible!!
