With all the bad reviews this book has getting, I was determined to read it anyway. I really liked it, enjoyed the "noble" ending, even though I already knew what to expect because of all the party poopers telling it in their reviews and how disappointed they were with the author. The book did not disappoint and the ending was a brilliant twist.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows.

I really enjoyed the first book CUCKOO'S CALLING....purchased this one too but was disappointed in how slowly it moved...........seemed to drag on and on with 'extreme wordiness and repetition to fill in the gaps'. However, that said, I enjoyed the characters and the strange story line but could offer only a three star rating because of the sluggishness. I felt I "had finally gotten to the end" with this one.

I feel like I have just read one of the original Stephen King novels that used to 'take me away' and dump me in a really bizarre place of the imagination! I am blown away by the total 'impact' of this story, the many remarkable characters, the fast and constant pace, and the AMAZING performance of Will Patton (the new Frank Muller). I was unable to put the book down when I had to.......and found myself doing marathon reads. My money was well spent and it's so nice to see Mr. King is once again at the top of his game! I am seeing a 'follow-up' novel on the heels of this book and can certainly hope for one.

Loved it and highly recommend to anyone who likes to be creeped out by weirdos and also fall in love with other main characters. Nobody develops characters better than King! *****

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Harlan Coben set huge sales records with last year’s Six Years - and he’s poised to do it again in his next breathtaking stand-alone thriller. Harlan Coben, author of six consecutive instant number-one New York Times best sellers and a total of 24 award-winning, best-selling, and internationally acclaimed novels, returns with another ripped-from-real-life thriller full of impossibly high emotional stakes and the real-to-life characters for which he has become famous.

The Profiler's Daughter is a psychologically haunting thriller that combines murder mystery, love triangle, and family intrigue in one satisfying page burner. Sky Stone was born into the wealth and privilege of Boston's oldest Brahmin family but chooses instead to follow in the footsteps of her deceased father, legendary FBI profiler Monk Stone. In the chilly morning hours before the Boston Marathon, when a beautiful university student is found strangled and mutilated, her body left at the base of Heartbreak Hill, Sky returns from self-imposed exile to investigate.

I enjoyed the story and the narration, though it bugged me that the main character played "stupid" too often. EXAMPLE: Seriously, who goes for a jog at 3 in the morning, by themselves, down by a lake where there's been a murder? duh

Looking forward to reading book 2 in the series.

I am having a love/hate relationship with this book. I hated it's descriptive, disgusting nature but also found it to be a page burner.........so go figure.

Giving it 4 stars on the notion that the folks that are reading this review ALREADY like really creepy books, and I would definitely recommend it. However, if by chance, you get an upset stomach or a bit queasy when reading bloody and gorey stories, close this book and move on to another, more light hearted story. This one will definitely gross you out. Just when I thought I'd seen it all, up pops the weirdest and nastiest of all body-snatchers and Ziegler has spared nothing with his description.

The only thing that bothered me with this book was the voice used for Margaret.......bothersome, too fast and it just didn't do the character justice. Hope that changes in future books.

I LOVE books that require imagination, AND provide intrigue with twists and turns. I started out loving this book, lost interest at some point, picked it back up and gave it another go, lost interest again because I was having difficulty getting my head around things that were happening, that seemed to drag on and on. Not sure how I feel about it at all. Interesting story line but like I said, I may have to re-read it again in the future just to be a 'fairer' judge.

I was a bit dubious about purchasing this book since it sounded like the story line was going to be similar to "Gone Girl". I didn't like "Gone Girl" because of all the nutsy behaviour between the husband and wife and I had a difficult time finishing that book.

However, a friend had read "He's Gone" and recommended it highly, so I took the chance. Glad I did. A fast read and entertaining. Wonderful narration as well.

After working one of the worst mass killings in U.S. history, Scarpetta returns home to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Exhausted and ill, she's recovering at home when she receives an unsettling call. The body of a young woman has been discovered on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's rugby field. The victim, a graduate student named Gail Shipman, is oddly draped in ivory linen and posed in a way that is too deliberate to be the killer's first strike.

I find myself drawn to Patricia Cornwell's books about Scarpetta because I loved, say, the first ten in the series. But, too late, after starting this one, I remembered why I wasn't going to read them any more. They have become boring and mundane, egos clashing, history repeated, and story line just okay, but somewhat repetitious. Didn't care for the 'choppy" narration either, when depicting Scarpetta.......and I feel at this point that Kay should be a chef and give up the dead. That's it though........no more Scarpetta. Onward and upward.
