So every now and then a story comes along and just surprises the heck out yah! This is one of them. The writing is great, but the narration added so much to it! When you have characters that are so smart and just plan ahead so well, it really makes for a great afternoon. You will laugh out loud at some point during this book, and I believe that everyone will be able to relate to the character on some level too.
Read it, you'll love it!
The banter is perfect, the story was engaging, and the end left me anticipating the next book. I won't be the only one who will feel this effect.
I found myself chuckling many times at the creative humor. The characters were believable and consistent. There were a few times I sped up the audio to get past some dark details but, after that the story just flowed together nicely.
I've come to expect amazing characters while reading these types of books. Brillant and imaginative. Sadly, this fell short. I wanted so much for the main character to be as smart as he was made out to be at the beginning. Yet the ridiculous actions and poorly thought out plans are pretty much what you'll read page after pager, (or in this case listen to..) each chapter, was a train wreck of lost life. This was the first I've listened to and will also be the last.
The Universe that Jack McDevitt has created is vast indeed. This book simply adds another chapter into it. The story, is as always, very well done, with plenty to keep your mind going. The character Alex Benedict, as your future day Sherlock Holmes, takes all the clues you never knew where there and makes amazing leaps and bounds in understanding the greater picture. Adding in fact and the unpredictability of humans and AI's (betas) to come to the correct conclusion. And although Jack brings closure to this book, the new doors he's opened leave even more room to expand. I can't wat for the next novel!
Just another awesome Book!
I could see this was going to be a good concept at the start. I didn't think the character was as intelligent as some of the others Weber has written about. But she is young, and acted accordingly. I do hope there are more to come. And that the story is expanded even more, as these are the stories I love to hear.
Almost from the first page, is this story all about terrible things happening. It just rolls on and on and on and on.. (well you get the idea) There was no point during this book that I thought wow this is great, or even good. All I wanted it to do was end. Then the ending came and thats when I discovered something positive. With an ending like that, I have absolutely no compulsion to get the next book and immediately deleted it from my library!
This is the first time I've ever hit the fast forward button while listening to an audio book. It took forever to get the story going, and when the first half of the book was over, I still did not care about the characters. I thought that it could go somewhere, and that perhaps it would; but no, the lines of interest dropped off into banter I didn't care about and had nothing to do with the story. So close, yet,.....
There are a few really great stories here, Altho the rest were lacking, they still stayed true to the Halo universe. In war theres alot of death, and those stories, showed the darker side of that. Over all, it was entertaining, but we'll always have our favorite.
