  • The Introvert Advantage: How to Thrive in an Extrovert World

The Introvert Advantage dispels common myths about introverts - they’re not necessarily shy, aloof, or antisocial - and explains how they are hardwired from birth to focus inward, so outside stimulation such as chitchat, phone calls, parties, or office meetings can easily become "too much". Most importantly, it thoroughly refutes many introverts’ belief that something is wrong with them. Instead, it helps them recognize their inner strengths - their analytical skills, ability to think outside the box, and strong powers of concentration.

What made the experience of listening to The Introvert Advantage the most enjoyable?

The narrator's voice is very pleasant and easy to listen to. She delivered the author's message in a way that I felt the author's own voice and authority came through.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Introvert Advantage?

One of the most memorable moments was when I realized why I found raising my first born daughter so very challenging. On the continuum, I lean toward introversion. My daughter on the other hand is very extroverted. I wish I had known that way back then.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book opened my eyes big time! It makes me happy to have this understanding of myself and others! There are very helpful suggestions for helping your children deal with whichever temperament they may have.

    Any additional comments?

I used information I learned from this book today. Someone I like was pressuring me to support a candidate I like but did not have enough information on to make an informed decision to endorse. Because of reading this book, I was able to express the fact that I need more time to "mull over" a decision as important as that one and that I would get back to him in a few days. He didn't get mad or feel put off. I feel so good being armed with this new knowledge. I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE.

  • Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health

Since the introduction of dietary guidelines calling for reduced fat intake in the 1970s, a strange phenomenon has occurred: Americans have steadily, inexorably become heavier, less healthy, and more prone to diabetes than ever before. After putting more than two thousand of his at-risk patients on a wheat-free regimen and seeing extraordinary results, cardiologist William Davis has come to the disturbing conclusion that it is not fat, not sugar, not our sedentary lifestyle that is causing America’s obesity epidemic—it is wheat.

What made the experience of listening to Wheat Belly the most enjoyable?

Learning information about wheat (so-called) that is new to me. I've removed wheat as much as possible from my diet to see what happens.

What did you like best about this story?

It opened my eyes about what is in our food...lots of "wheat"..... Parts of it cross the blood-brain barrier and head for the brain's morphine receptors? Wheat is addictive? Is this why when I follow a low carb/no carb diet I do not get hungry?

Have you listened to any of Tom Weiner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. Except that I bought a hard copy for my daughter and mom-in-law.

  • The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine

Who understood the risk inherent in the assumption of ever-rising real-estate prices, a risk compounded daily by the creation of those arcane, artificial securities loosely based on piles of doubtful mortgages? Michael Lewis turns the inquiry on its head to create a fresh, character-driven narrative brimming with indignation and dark humor, a fitting sequel to his number-one best-selling Liar’s Poker.

Jill Pagano says: "Finally, I understand what happened!"
    "Fascinating and insightful."

Would you listen to The Big Short again? Why?

I have listened to The Big Short at least 3 times since I downloaded it. Incredible story. Michael Lewis dissected the financial disaster and brought it to life for his readers. He follows the experience of actual players on Wall Street. He names names. The reader gets to experience what happened and how the players had their eyes opened to and profited from what happened on Wall Street. What actually happened is mind blowing. Very well written.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

How Michael Lewis brought the main characters to life; he is an incredible writer and journalist. This story throws light on CDOs and CDSs and the groups that promoted them, who bought them, who shorted them. How the middlemen were profiting from both sides; in short, how the 2008 financial crisis came to be.

Which character – as performed by Jesse Boggs – was your favorite?

    Steve Eisemen.

If you could give The Big Short a new subtitle, what would it be?

    There are many. Perhaps:

Financial Coup and Death of the Republic
Greed: The Downfall of a Great Nation
    Dumb and Dumber

    Any additional comments?

Best book I've read all year. Will definitely buy more of Michale Lewis. Thank you!
