Welcome to the paperless (or "audiobook") edition of More Information Than You Require, a further compendium of COMPLETE WORLD KNOWLEDGE assembled and illumined by John Hodgman, a Famous Minor Television Personality. It contains all of the half-truths, fake trivia, amazing made-up facts, and molemanic lore as the paper edition, narrated here by Resident Expert John Hodgman, occasionally interrupted by this veritable extravaganza of illustrious and sometimes presumptuous guests.

    Bobby says: "John Hodgman"
    "Great performance"

I call it a performance because it is not just an audiobook being read, it has the feeling of a comedy skit being performed. I would often listen to audiobooks on the tram to work, but I couldn't with this one. I would burst out laughing too often and receive some crazy looks. Absolutely funny. Well worth the credit. They were just kids when they stumbled upon the horror of their hometown. Now, as adults, none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them all back to Derry, Maine, to face the nightmare without end, and the evil without a name.

    "Finally on audiobook!"

This is perhaps one of Stephen King's greatest novels. I remember first reading it as a kid and it still creeps me out to this day (I can never look at clowns the same way again).
What makes this even better is it's unabridged. At 44 hours long, you definitely get a lot for one credit.
I was also very pleased with Steven Weber (of Wings and the TV-made version of The Shining fame) reading. His voice really makes this book worth hearing.

They were orphans, Chris and Saul - raised in a Philadelphia school for boys, bonded by friendship, and devoted to a mysterious man called Eliot.

I'm a big fan or Morrell and I loved this book, but the production on this audio version is pretty sub-par. The narrator's voice goes really fast, as if the speed on the tape was increased. This makes it difficult to understand some of the words and the listener can end up confused on some character and plot points simply because it goes too fast to process.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You may have thought the movie was scary, but this is pure Stephen King as it was meant to be experience – performed frighteningly well by Campbell Scott. First published in 1977, The Shining quickly became a benchmark in the literary career of Stephen King. This tale of a troubled man hired to care for a remote mountain resort over the winter, his loyal wife, and their uniquely gifted son slowly but steadily unfolds as secrets from the Overlook Hotel's past are revealed.

Eileen says: "Much better than the movie..."
    "Excellent reading"
    Overall

The Shining is probably one of Stephen King's best books. It frightened me when I first read it almost fifteen years ago and it frightened me again. Campbell Scott's reading was perfect.
