For nearly 2,000 years, only one Druid has walked the Earth - Atticus O’Sullivan, the Iron Druid, whose sharp wit and sharp sword have kept him alive as he’s been pursued by a pantheon of hostile deities. Now he’s got company. Atticus’ apprentice, Granuaile, is at last a full Druid herself. What’s more, Atticus has defrosted an archdruid long ago frozen in time, a father figure (of sorts) who now goes by the modern equivalent of his old Irish name: Owen Kennedy. And Owen has some catching up to do.

    Story

Granuaile. I really liked her...before she was a druid.

The latest books have a bad case of 'Dungeon Master's Girlfriend'. (For you non-gamers, it's in Dungeons & Dragons when the game master's girlfriend plays and he makes sure everything goes her way) Let's face it - at this point, she could easily best Atticus in combat. She has the best animal forms. She has a silly powerful weapon. A year or two of training and now she's a ninja with staff & throwing knives. Oh and she's the perfect woman. It's pretty obvious Hearne has an obsession for her and it's screwed up his writing. She could have been so much more.

No one could have imagined Odd Thomas ever leaving the quirky comfort of Pico Mundo. Yet leave it he has, for a monastery. But Odd has a knack for finding trouble no matter where he goes, and a killer is stalking the ancient holy halls. Odd is about to meet an enemy who eclipses any he has yet encountered.

    Story

I'm not sure if Koontz was on auto-pilot or what with this story. The plot is pretty much a rip off of a cult classic Sci-Fi movie from the past (I'm not stating here to prevent spoilers). I'm assuming from the number of 4 & 5 stars that quite a few people are unaware of the movie. Unfortunately for me, it's one of my favorites - I picked up on the plot almost immediately. I had hoped I was wrong (I kept thinking there was no way Koontz would do this) but I was not.

Over all, it's still worth a listen. Odd is in general a cool character and hopefully the next book will be more original.
