Samantha Bee is hysterical! I can't imagine actually reading this book when you can listen to it. I'm sure it is a funny read as well, but you would deffinitely miss something without Bee's impressions, mannerisms, and inflections. Really, really, funny!
This is so good! I am so glad that audible put it on their recommended series list, I don't know when I would have found it otherwise. Kevin Hearne has created a series that has me completely hooked. And Luke Daniels does such an amazing job narrating it that I don't know if I would be so addicted to the series if I had just read it in print. His portrayal of Oberon is fabulous! If anyone else narrates this series down the road it would be a huge mistake (ie Dresden and Dexter). The book is a perfect combination of action and humor. The story and characters are incredibly likeable without being cheesey. I really can't say enough about how much I enjoy this series. It's definitely a favorite now!
I have listened to some of the series and read some. So the change in narrator did not bother me in the least. It was very well read. The book is incredible! Well worth the wait. No cliff-hanger like the last one (thank God). I can't tell you how many times I was brought to tears. It was just so stinkin' good! Can't wait for the next one!
I'm torn between what to rate this series, especially this book. On one hand I want to give it 5 stars because I can't stop listening to it. On the other hand I want to give it 1 star because never before have I gotten so angry at the main character of a series. Faythe makes mistakes and bad choices one after another throughout the series that leave me constantly swearing outloud. I continue listening because I'm hoping that at least some of the supporting characters make it to the end alive and not emotionally destroyed. Vincent has me listening because I'm attached to them more than the heroine. She is stupid and selfish even though you are suppose to believe she is strong and independent. So I'll listen to the last book I need to know how it all ends.
I was tentative to listen to this after reading the first several reviews about the author's narration. I had LOVED Nick Landrum's voice throughout the series thus far. But Jeff Lindsay does a decent job at narrating this edition. The book itself is excellent! Dexter loses his edge in trade for humanity for a while and it's an interesting twist on the character. As always, I remain a devoted Dexter fan.....can't wait for the next one!
I've listened to all of this series.....some have been better than others. This one has taken a lot of flack review-wise on Amazon. I have to agree with most of what is being said: Betsy seems more dumb and oblivious than ever. Although I did like the time travel elements of the story. The ending is shocking; a complete 180 in what you expect from this series. I really feel this is half a book, it ends at the peak of the plot-line. Unfinished is part of the title and I guess I should have taken that as a warning. I'm sure I would not have been so disappointed if I had the next in the series (i.e. the other half of this book) to read immediately after finishing this one. It's not like this book ends with a cliff-hanger so that you cant wait for the next one. It just stops, there isn't an ending. So my recommendation is to wait until next July and read the two together.....you'll be less pissed off that way.
This is a GREAT book! The narration was awesome--his voice was a perfect match for this character. Yes, it has a good dose of blood and guts, but none of it is gratuitous. All the gore is an integral part of the plot. I'm anxious to read more of Sandman Slim--this story is a fresh and original specimen in a genre that often seems repetitive.
I had been so excited about this book coming out that I was nervous it wouldn't live up to my expectations. My husband thinks I'm a little obsessed with the Southern Vampire Series. I can't help it, Harris has drawn me in with Sookie, Eric, Bill, and Sam.
Dead and Gone is no let-down. I was thrilled to see the development between Sookie and Eric. I have become a huge Eric fan and enjoyed how Harris made me love him and question him even more in this book. And Bill....oh, how she smoothes him in there as well... I can't wait to see what becomes of the three of them.
My only disappointment was that it ended too soon. I can't wait for the next one!
