Few children's classics can match the charm and originality of Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden, the unforgettable story of sullen, sulky Mary Lennox, "the most disagreeable-looking child ever seen." When a cholera epidemic leaves her as an orphan, Mary is sent to England to live with her reclusive uncle, Archibald Craven, at Misselthwaite Manor.

What did you love best about The Secret Garden?

It is just a great story which I had not read for decades. I truly enjoyed listening to it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Secret Garden?

The scene when Mary confronts Collin is very memorable. That is where the story turns.

What about Finola Hughes’s performance did you like?

I listened to several samples before choosing this reader. She has an English accent that is very understandable and easy to listen to. It was an excellent performance for the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book did make me laugh at times.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoy going back and listening to a children's classic occasionally. I would definitely recommend this one.

Would you consider the audio edition of Night Fall to be better than the print version?

I do not know. I prefer audio books to listen to when I am quilting or doing other things.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Didn't really have one. I guess the detective who is telling the story.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The description of the scene on the beach.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, just very fascinated with the details of the investigation of the explosion of TWA 800. I like a book that makes me think and question AND is not predictable. This book falls into the category of historical fiction.

    Any additional comments?

I have never been a fan of any particular author before Nelson DeMille. He definitely does his research which makes the books so interesting to me. The Charm School is another favorite.

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

What did you love best about NOS4A2?

The second half of the book. The characters developed and the story was more engaging.

Would you be willing to try another book from Joe Hill? Why or why not?

Already have: The Heart Shaped Box (loved it!)

    Which scene was your favorite?

The intensity at the end when Vic was trying to save her son kept me on the edge of my seat.

If you could rename NOS4A2, what would you call it?

    ?

    Any additional comments?

Had some trouble wrapping my head around "Christmas Land" early in the book. By mid-book though, I was hooked into the story (no, not by teeth--read the book, you'll understand.)

If you could sum up The Da Vinci Code in three words, what would they be?

    fascinating, action, lengthy

Would you be willing to try another book from Dan Brown? Why or why not?

Just finished Inferno. Liked it better.

What does Paul Michael bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Reader does a great job of differentiating voices so that you can see and hear the characters. He reads with the inflection of speech.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. I just thought it was dragged out a little.

Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, a thing so terrible-strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet. For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost. It's the real thing.

Would you consider the audio edition of Heart-Shaped Box to be better than the print version?

I really enjoyed this book. I like a well written thriller once in awhile. I was annoyed at the insertion of irritating rock music between section. If it had not been for that, I would rate the performance a 5.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, I was on the edge of my seat through most of the book. At times, I thought I could predict what was coming but I would be wrong. I like that in a book.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The scene when Jude returns to visit his dying father--or to be around his father's dogs. Lots of surprises and excitement.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The dead return for their own.

Over the past decade, Malcolm Gladwell has become the most gifted and influential journalist in America. In The New Yorker, his writings are such must-reads that the magazine charges advertisers significantly more money for ads that run within his articles. With his #1 best sellers, The Tipping Point, Blink and Outliers, he has reached millions of readers. And now the very best and most famous of his New Yorker pieces are collected in a brilliant and provocative anthology.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

There were many indepth nonfiction articles in this books, some very fascinating when the truth was exposed; however, I felt they were a little too wordy. I picked the ones that interested me and skimmed the others.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Not applicable because each chapter is a different research article.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The article on the hair color empire and the one on birth control were my favorite articles. I also found the one on the Challenger explosion and the Enron fiasco very revealing.

Could you see What the Dog Saw being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

I think I would have enjoyed this more to read an article periodically for its facts and explanation instead of reading the book cover-to-cover.
