Mrs. Sookie Poole of Point Clear, Alabama, has just married off the last of her daughters and is looking forward to relaxing and perhaps traveling with her husband, Earle. The only thing left to contend with is her mother, the formidable Lenore Simmons Krackenberry. Lenore may be a lot of fun for other people, but is, for the most part, an overbearing presence for her daughter. Then one day, quite by accident, Sookie discovers a secret about her mother's past that knocks her for a loop and suddenly calls into question everything she ever thought she knew about herself, her family, and her future.

Would you listen to The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion again? Why?

I will certainly listen to this story again in order to spend some more time with Sookie, Fritzie and the gals.

What other book might you compare The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion to and why?

Can't Wait to Get to Heaven. The characters are simple yet complex and infinitely endearing.

What about Fannie Flagg’s performance did you like?

Everything! She brought her characters to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A tale of an octogenarian southern belle, a WWII female flying ace and the confused housewife caught between them.

    Any additional comments?

    Keep 'me coming.

A renaissance fair is coming to the relatively quiet college town of Farberville, Arkansas. Though resistant to getting involved, Claire Malloy, local bookseller and mother of the perpetually petulant teen Caron, finds herself drawn into the strange inner workings of the group putting on the fair. But a dark mood falls over the festivities when one of the organizers is a victim of arson, and her body is found in the burned wreckage of her rented house. Someone is definitely dead - but is it murder?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I wouldn't. While the story is interesting, the main character is not very likable (far too impressed with her own take-charge ways). But the real flaw hear is the narration. There isn't much shading in the narration. It is the same level of complaining aggressive the whole way through. This book would have been much better told in the third person with a lighter touch on the narration.

How could the performance have been better?

A less strident, negative tone. More levels... Everything is read as equally important... Even the mundane tasks of life.

Novelist Anne George injects murder, mayhem, and laughs into her popular mysteries. Nominated for an Agatha Award, this hilarious tale of two “60 something” sisters reveals the deadly consequences of a hasty real estate purchase. Retired Alabama school teacher Patricia Anne thinks her older sister, flamboyant Mary Alice, has lost her cotton-pickin’ mind. On a whim, Mary Alice bought the Skoot ’n’ Boot, the local country western night spot where she and her boyfriend hang out. Mary Alice insists it will be easy to run the club - until the previous owner is found executed.

This is a good, fun listen.

Not on the edge of my seat, but definitely interested.

I enjoyed her narration very much.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No, but I never do.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

This is simply one of the best books of the decade. The narrators are terrific.

Bill, (Lord) Rowcester was well and truly in the gumbo. With the benefit of hindsight he could see that setting himself up as a Silver Ring bookie might not have been his smartest move ever. Particularly when being down on his dibbs threatens his oncoming nuptials with the sterling Jill Wyvern. Lucky for Bill he had the land-lease of Jeeves.

Sarah says: "A sort of time capsule of post-war Britain"
    "Brilliant narration!"
    Overall

Nigel Lambert's narration is a perfect complement for Wodehouse's story! The characters come to life!
