When it comes to world-class employees, few organizations rival Disney. Famous for their friendliness, knowledge, passion, and superior customer service, Disney's employees have been fueling the iconic brand's wild success for more than 50 years. How has Disney succeeded in maintaining such a powerful workforce for so many years? Why are so many corporations and executives drawn to study how Disney continues to exemplify service and leadership standards? The Disney University, founded by Van France, trains the supporting cast that helps create the world-famous Disney Magic.

The content of the book itself is interesting and any Disney fanatic would like to hear about how their training was developed and progressed. The issue I have with the book is the narration as it sounds like the book was typed into a computer.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Anastasia Burke says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"

What made the experience of listening to Unbroken the most enjoyable?

The story in itself is amazing. The story of a man who literally went through hell and back and how he dealt with the struggles throughout. Everything about this book was enjoyable to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unbroken?

His time on the raft with his two fellow soldiers. How they made it that long on extremely small amounts of food, water, dealing with the sun, sharks, and Japanese gunners.

What about Edward Herrmann’s performance did you like?

The narrator delivers a great performance on this book. He is enjoyable to listen to.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book does make you feel a lot of different emotions from anger and empathy to happiness and joy.

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in WWII or a story of a truly great individual making it through some unthinkable times.

Easy Company, 506th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, was as good a rifle company as any in the world. From their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942 to D-Day and victory, Ambrose tells the story of this remarkable company, which kept getting the tough assignments. Easy Company was responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. Band of Brothers is the account of the men of this remarkable unit.

Like most, I've seen the HBO series "Band of Brothers". I also wanted to go deeper into the story so I purchased the e-book as well as the audible version. I recently finished the book and have a new appreciation for the Greatest Generation. They truly deserve that name by the sacrifices they made to help make this country what it is today. The audio version of this book is excellent and the narrator does a terrific job. I am looking forward to reading more by this author and others on the topic!

The secret for creating magic in our careers, our organizations, and our lives is simple: outstanding leadership, the kind that inspires employees, delights customers, and achieves extraordinary business results. No one knows more about this kind of leadership than Lee Cockerell, the man who ran Walt Disney World Resort operations for over a decade.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely! For anyone that is a fan of Disney, Lee Cockerell's book Creating Magic is excellent! As the title explains, he does have common sense strategies however common sense is not so common nowadays. His points really do encompass what Disney is all about, and more companies would be better off following his strategies.

    Any additional comments?

I really liked that the author was also the narrator for this book. It added a personal touch.
