Ok so...This book was listed on a forum that said if you liked Hunger games and Divergent you will like this.....nope! This is written and performed in a very cheesy way, the actor speaks like it is 1910 again. They say things like "Father, may I take Gabriel into my room for his slumber tonight so you and mother may get your necessary and vital resting time?" "oh, Lilly-Billy" "He listened politely though not very attentively while his father took his turn, describing a feeling of worry that he had at that day at work" If that wasn't enough, you can hear the performer swallowing and smacking his lips throughout the performance. THEN you have random times of music playing in the back. I am trying to listen to what is happening and then random orchestra music plays at very weird times during the scene. It's abrupt and distracting. Don't listen to this book unless you like stories written in the old English and if you like endings that abruptly cut off with no explanation.
No and this will be my last. I am not going to continue with the series. Apparently the second book has entirely new characters and a new setting. I want to know what happened to Jonas. The ending was abrupt and in the middle of intense situation. It was a terrible ending.
You can hear his lips smacking, him swallowing and him breathing during the performance. I've never heard that in any other books I've listened too. He sounded like he needed a drink of water the whole time.
The plot of the story was actually a good plot. It was the way it was written and performed that just ruined it. I regret using my credit on this story.
Cheesy. Old English. Bad performance. Bad and unnecessary music. Lip smacking. Breathing into the microphone. I have listened to and loved Hunger games series, Divergent series, partials, legend, and inside out series to give you a better understanding of what I like and I hated this performance.
I listened to the prequel before reading this book and I had loved it. I thought it would be about "mutants", psychics, or perhaps angels & demons. So I didn't expect what this book was actually about. It was a little juvenile which if you are in high school then it should be a good read! However, I won't be continuing with the series. It was interesting enough that I enjoyed listening to it and I completed the book. The performance was pretty good. I did look forward to listening to the book so please don't consider this review as a negative one. I just enjoy a little more of a mature YA book. I listen to YA because I like PG books, just because I am an adult does not mean I want to listen to books that include rape or drug use. If you enjoy stories with characters in high school then this is a great book. Just won't be continuing the series but I enjoyed it while I listened.
This book was the pre-quel so no probably not.
The mystery of her "powers"
She brings me time to do the dishes and clean my house while listening instead of sitting on the couch reading it myself! Lol so I wouldn't experience a clean house
It's a well written story and read well too. Action, mystery, sorrow, lust, and
The reader and main character. I love brave women.
I feel like this question leads to spoilers! Not going to say.
The writing, the reading, the characters!!! The characters were the best, you can imagine these people really existing. The mystery was edge of the seat and yet so realistic until the end. This book is awesome until the ending, stupid ending but I don't regret listening because the journey was so entertaining!
Yes and No, the overall book is a fantastic realistic mystery until the end
Great reader! His voice goes perfect with the character he reads for
Great book bad ending. I would still recommend it though!
Reader was fantastic!
Typical story with a few twists. Cast system and oppression. If you combine Cinderella and a dystopian setting you get this book!
No, only part that came close was her love for her sister.
I like the mystery of the first book, you go along with the main character as she herself discovers this new world. The main character and you will both be wondering what comes next and both trying to figure out what things mean at Mythos.
The main character as there are not many likeable characters besides her grandma in the first book.
No, like I said in my headline this is no divergent or hunger games. This is more of a juvenile book and I can't imagine male readers enjoying it at all. I read YA because I don't like to read, listen or watch anything gory. I don't like to see any violence against children, women or sexual assault and I don't like swearing. Sometimes, I sacrifice maturity of the plot and writing because of that. The first book is pretty good where it is somewhat of a mystery but very juvenile in context. The second book is the same thing but I am still enjoying the mystery more than I am rolling my eyes at the juvenile writing. I plan on listening to third book.
Overall, I do recommend this book as long as the "texting, clothes, popularity, rich snobs" context doesn't make you roll your eyes. The mystery and action scenes are worth the overlooking the other stuff.
Well if they are strong divergent fans then of course this is a fun little short story. There are no real surprises, if I was asked to write Four's story this is probably what I would of thought to write. From reading the books this is what I gathered had happend but it was still fun to listen to.
Yes, I plan too. Because of all the good information. You will learn more about depression than you ever thought possible. I found myself saying "oh my God I do that!" over and over again. I found out more about myself and why I think or do what I do! I began seeing a difference in my depression within 1 day of listening to this book. I began simply with Omega-3 vitamins and once I felt better I worked my way up to sunny day walks. I am now socializing again and feeling the happiness I once felt. I plan on slowly getting off my depression pills within the next week because I no longer feel I need them. Sometimes all it takes is the right vitamin and the right words. This guy "gets" me more than I got myself.
My two fav's are divergent series and hunger games series. I am not sure where virals is but I am excited to listen to book 2 of this series!
The wolf dogs.
This book wasn't for me but its not a bad story. I love "mutants" but this had werewolves, witches, fairies, shape shifters and the main character can just see ghosts. Not new or exciting. The story is more of a love triangle mystery than thriller or action. Even amongst witches and fairies there were very normal things like divorces, cheating, and hook-ups. The narration was meant to have a "Texan" accent but she comes off more like a southern bell from 1880. The parts that are male sound more like a grandma. All the girls have the same voice except the vampire. Her mom and camp counselor sound the exact same. Also, the writer has some weird obsession with boobs. I don't want to bash the story too much because it was a great mystery. If you like lust, werewolves, vampires, and mysteries then you'll probably love this book. It's not about love its about lust. The main girl is more confused than brave. Overall, I'm not going to continue the series but if you like very juvenile books or are a child then this is a good one.
