Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, for in a time of declining birthrates her value lies in her fertility, and failure means exile to the dangerously polluted Colonies. Offred can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost even her own name....

Would you listen to The Handmaid's Tale again? Why?

Clare Danes does a great job with the feel of the book and fits the story. If a radical religion were to gain footing in our America, we would be in for such a shock. I loved this. What a great subject!

What did you love best about Breakfast with Buddha?

The whole story was just fabulous. I think every person alive should have this experience in their life, or for sure read this book. I loved every second of this book. What great life lessons. Fun, fun, fun book!

What did you like best about this story?

Everything. I cried at the end once this man found his gratitude. I'm not a cryer.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    The yoga class

Who was the most memorable character of Breakfast with Buddha and why?

The Buddah, but I loved the main character just as much.

In The Signature of All Things, Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction, inserting her inimitable voice into an enthralling story of love, adventure and discovery. Spanning much of the 18th and 19th centuries, the novel follows the fortunes of the extraordinary Whittaker family as led by the enterprising Henry Whittaker - a poor-born Englishman who makes a great fortune in the South American quinine trade, eventually becoming the richest man in Philadelphia.

What did you love best about The Signature of All Things?

I have to respect the endless research she put in to this book, but the story was a bit all over the place. I still really loved the listen. Through the whole book though, I was really rooting for this poor woman to get laid just once. Sorry if I offend, but I thought it through most of the book. Even when she was 90 I was still cheering her on....nope, not once.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The lead character, she was fascinating.

What does Juliet Stevenson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She did a great job, but this is one of those books where the accents were wrong. I know how we Americans love the ol English accent, but it needs to fit the story. She was an American, but most of the book was in an English accent.

Harper Lee’s Pulitzer prize-winning masterwork of honor and injustice in the deep south - and the heroism of one man in the face of blind and violent hatred, available now for the first time as a digital audiobook. One of the best-loved stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than 40 languages, sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, served as the basis for an enormously popular motion picture, and was voted one of the best novels of the 20th century by librarians across the country.

If you could sum up To Kill a Mockingbird in three words, what would they be?

This is one of the greatest classics and with good reason. I'm a picky reader, but I didn't want this to end. If you have never read or listened to this, stop everything and begin.

What does Sissy Spacek bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brings the story to life. Some narrators can totally kill an audio book, Sissy Spacek draws you in to the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Oh with out a doubt.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

My all time favorite. I love all of his work, but this is the masterpiece! Jump is head first. Great great book!

Which character – as performed by Khaled Hosseini – was your favorite?

I love that he narrated his own book and he did such a wonderful job. When an author is the one telling the story they are able to best convey the feeling of their words. It adds a great dimension to this story.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.
