Billy Crystal's performance in this book was perfect. I often listen to books while at work and I found myself laughing out loud while my co-workers looked at me as if I were loosing my mind. I could relate to many of the situations in the book. I will definitely listen to this book more than once. I plan on sharing the audio as well has purchasing the book to give as gifts.
I love to read however, my schedule allows little time for this pleasure. When I start a book I literally do nothing else until I have finished reading it. With that I have started listening to audio books - which satisfies only part of my love of reading but at this point in my life I will take it.
I chose this book due to the description, as a mystery it appealed to me. I did not anticipate the story to have the direction that it did. I truly loved the story line, and found myself writing down quotes. As the story continued I would listen at my desk, continue in by car and again in the evening while I worked from home. I would think to myself I can't wait to share this audio with my mom or the book with my son and my neighbor. I will purchase one for each and another for myself so I can actually read the words and let them engulf me, while giving myself a chance to ponder what the author is saying or describing something - an audio book does not allow you to do as it just keeps moving on. I admit that I did rewind it more than once just to hear certain parts of the story or a particular conversation over and over.
I enjoyed the authors explanation at the end of the story of how the story came to be and how it continues to grow. I hope that it does become a movie some day very soon! I would purchase tickets for everyone I could so they could share the experience.
Thank you to the author and everyone who played in a part in its development from his wife and family to those who continue to allow the story to grow by sharing it and promoting it. This truly a gift from Poppa aka God to the rest of us.
My sister-in-law recommended this book. I was immediately engrossed with the story and the main character. Having a dog myself and often noting that she seems to understand what I am saying and responds with her own opinions when fielding my questions I could easily relate to Enso. I laughed, cried, expressed anger, disgust, and smiled while listening to this book. It was easy to identify with the characters and to feel their emotions through the authors words and the narrators performance.I love to read and find it very difficult to put books down once I start; listening allows we to do what I love while accomplishing what I need to do. The narrator performed wonderfully with expression and emphasis throughout the story. I would listen to this story again and will search for other stories narrated by Mr. Welch.
