Twelve-year-old Crispin has lived on the streets since he was nine — with only his wits and his daring to sustain him, and only his silent dog, Harley, to call his friend. He is always on the move, never lingering in any one place long enough to risk being discovered. Still, there are certain places he returns to. In the midst of the tumultuous city, they are havens of solitude: like the hushed environs of St. Mary Salome Cemetery, a place where Crispin can feel at peace — safe, at least for a while, from the fearsome memories that plague him... and seep into his darkest nightmares.

My first Koontz book and I will get more. I enjoyed it from start to finish. I loved the strength of the young boy his dogs, and the one friend he makes. I would recommend this to my friends who do a lot of reading. The performance by Peter Berkrot was super. I can see a sequel in the works.

Enter the world of the Pendleton: The original owner became a recluse - and was rumored to be more than half mad - after his wife and two children were kidnapped in 1896 and never found. The second owner suffered a worse tragedy in 1935, when his house manager murdered him, his family, and the entire live-in staff.... Craftsmen and laborers working on renovations disappear or go mad.... For years, the Pendleton is a happy place, until a bad turn comes again.... Voices in unknown languages are heard in deserted rooms....

The narration by Peter Berkrot was very good. The story had potential but lacked something. I enjoyed it but!!!!! There was just so much description of gore in every room. You already knew it was there but yet he went on and on about it. Maybe he was trying to fill up pages. I'm not sorry I read the book, it just wasn't one of my favorites.

Declan Fitzgerald had always been the family maverick, but even he couldn't understand his impulse to buy a dilapidated mansion on the outskirts of New Orleans. All he knew was that ever since he saw Manet Hall, he'd been enchanted - and obsessed - with it. So when the opportunity to buy the house comes up Declan jumps at the chance to live out a dream.

On the alien, sunless planet they call Eden, the 532 members of the Family shelter beneath the light and warmth of the Forest's lantern trees. Beyond the Forest lie the mountains of the Snowy Dark and a cold so bitter and a night so profound that no man has ever crossed it. The Oldest among the Family recount legends of a world where light came from the sky, where men and women made boats that could cross the stars. These ships brought us here, the Oldest say - and the Family must only wait for the travelers to return.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes but the story was so different you have to be into Sci fi/ fiction to really appreciate it.

Strange planet w/ darkness everywhere, strange animals, an inbred civilization w/ power struggles going on. No real future, good vs bad. Strong vs weak. I liked it but again rather strange story. The narration was really good. I enjoyed the book a lot.

Loved the journey, nothing like any of the movies that have been made over the years. It's surprising how the movie makers take liberty w/ the authors creations. The performance by Tim Curry was wonderful. Great Story.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

The twists and turns the book takes mind bending. The deception by almost everyone is off the scale. A struggle between good and evil that will turn church against state, and brother against brother. A wonderfully captivating adventure I enjoyed all 40 plus hours of it.

All the emotions were touch upon. Anger and fear are the biggest ones. The strength of some to help others, and the loathing of others that dehumanize children is over whelming. This book will grab you and keep you on the edge. Well written, well read, and very entertaining.

The book is clean and refreshing, a fantastic story. A man leaves everything and goes on a journey to do his duty for his now adopted niece. No violence, foul language, no good vs evil, just a good man doing the right thing. It's wonderful. I loved it.
