Unfortunately Audible hasn't published the prerequisite novels so don't make a mistake and buy this like I did.
I'm not sure. It certainly was flat.
That I spent an audible credit on it. In the 1st 3 hours I didn't find any reference to Sir Richard Burton, one of the reason's I bought the book to begin with.
Flat reading. Would have been better with an accent.
I think Memory of Running is one of my favorite books I have ever listened to. Ron's reading is a delight. This book is written in a similar vein, with some of the same east Providence locales. It isn't a 5 star book. I have given it 4 stars to encourage, Ron, Audible, and Penguin to give this man a full time contract to write!
This is a spectacular book to listen to. The narrator is a little monotone at times, but the book, plot, sci fi and mystery are wonderfully unique and more than make up for that weakness. I'd love to listen to the sequels. I've never taken time to give a positive review (I believe in warning folks on the dogs) until this one.
This has been one of my greatest listening experiences.
I never appreciated the subtle parallels the author was trying to establish between his "stories". The author attempts to maintain multiple narrative voices; with striking success in one case; and dismal failure in another.
I NEVER listen to abridged books; I might have enjoyed this one if the long, unintersting second half had been 1/4 the length.
