What can I say - this was, hands down, one of my favorite series of books! It is rare to find a collection of Christian stories so captivating & thought provoking! I have read some of the other reviews & am surprised about some complaints of too much Christianity in the story! I did not find this to be so & was absolutely inspired by those parts in which the thoughts or discussions were centered on and around Christ. To think of the courage & conviction a person must have in a country where Christians are so severely persecuted is tough, to say the least! Made me so very thankful to live in a society whose core is built around freedom of religion & speech!
It's hard to find a good, Christian romance novel. Thank goodness for Dee Henderson! Love this series, love the narrator! This is the second time I've listened to the story & the second time around was just as good as the first! Worth the credit.
It is expected that most story series become basically very similar in the writing - especially after so many books. We usually begin to recognize the same plots in each book & have expectations as to how the story is going to progress.
This book, however, demonstrates the depth of JR Ward's creativity. Other than some of the verbiage, it was vastly different from the other books. I laughed & I cried throughout - becoming a part of Tres, Selena, & Iam's lives. I could barely put it down.
Once again, Jim Frangione's narration was superb & flawless. I hope he continues to narrate any future books in the series as we would lose such a large sense of these characters if the narrator changes.
My one criticism of this exceptional story is the fact that three of the character's names were changed & some of the words get pronounced differently. It was so disconcerting to have gotten to know the characters in prior stories, then have their names change in this one. I didn't like that at all. Other than that - it was an outstanding listen!
I have all the books in this series so far. Of them all, this was probably my least favorite. Just kind of dragged with the drugs & with Phury & Cormia's relationship. I still enjoyed it for the most part, but mostly the parts about everyone else in the story. I have really enjoyed this series, though, & will be buying the next story as soon as it is available! Great overall job, JR. Ward! Narrator is fantastic!
This is a story that captures the imagination and emotions of the listener! I was caught from the very beginning to the very last words. A most believable rendition of life during the time of Christ's death and the years following. I cried and cheered with the characters throughout the story and loved every minute! Thank you!
I began to wonder if I had made a mistake at the start of the book, but had trouble putting it down about a third of the way through the story. Loved the historical aspect of the period. Will be listening to more books in this series!
Enjoyed this book very much, but found the story of Lt Dallas' working through her nightmares a bit tiresome in this book. I did like that Rourke took a more active role in the story/investigation this time. Overall, an enjoyable listen.
What a wonderful story of life for Christians in the Roman empire during the century after Christ was crucified! The story line was a thought provoking insight into the life of Hadassah - a young Jewish slave girl. I cried for her and others during the hard times and rejoiced with them in times when God intervened to carry them down the paths they were to go during their lives. I thank God for the opportunity to live in a country where freedom of speech & religion are built into it's very foundation!
I have listened to the first two books in this series and enjoyed the encounters tremendously! It's the first time I have ever listened to this genre of story, and was pleasantly surprised! I plan on getting the 3rd book of the series, as well. Hopefully, in the future, the author will write a book starring each of the male characters in the group (that is certainly more than 3!) Great Listen!
This was not one of my favorite books to listen to, but was fairly enjoyable. Very predictable in that, just as a situation would seem hopeless - the professor would magically get enough information to go on to the next clue! Pretty much unbelievable. I did enjoy the ending, though!
