From Atlanta's wealthiest suburbs to its stark inner-city housing projects, a killer has crossed the boundaries of wealth and race. And the people who are chasing him must cross those boundaries, too. Among them is Michael Ormewood, a veteran detective whose marriage is hanging by a thread and whose arrogance and explosive temper are threatening his career. And Angie Polaski, a beautiful vice cop who was once Michael's lover before she became his enemy.

This audiobook was AAAAHHHMMAAAZZZZINNNGGG!! I couldn't stop listening! I am getting my two monthly credits in a little over a week and I'm actually buying the second one (Fractured) because I can't wait that long! I 'read' this book in under a week, and it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. If the rest of this series is even half as good as this first book, I'll be hooked on these for a while. You will not regret this book!!!

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Would you listen to Gone Girl again? Why?

Yes, I can't say enough good things about everything Gillian Flynn! This was such a good book, it keeps you guessing the whole time!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes! I normally only listen in my car...but I found myself listening to this book while I cooked, cleaned, worked...any chance I got!

What does Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration was superb, they put on quite a performance.

    Any additional comments?

Great, GREAT book...even better narration. You won't regret this!

The story of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is very difficult to describe. Usually we give some information about the audiobook, but in this case we think that would spoil the listening. We think it's important that you start to listen without knowing what it is about.

What did you like best about The Boy in the Striped Pajamas? What did you like least?

I went into this book blind as there is no description, but now I know why. This book tells a story that we all know, but from a point of view that we've never heard. I thought the story was good but the narration made it even better for me. Don't know how I would have enjoyed this had it not been narrated for me.

    Any additional comments?

All in all, this was OK. Didn't blow my skirt up...but I don't regret "reading" it.

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

What did you love best about Dark Places?

Everything...the author, the story, the narration...EVERYTHING! I read (actually read) Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn in one sitting, she is such an amazing author. Her writing is dark, witty and intriguing...and Dark Places surely lived up to my expectations.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dark Places?

I loved that they had more than one narrarator. It gives the audiobook so much more depth than just having one person do multiple voices...even though when they did do other voices, they still did a wonderful job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it's a long one, so I couldn't. Although, it made the drive to work exciting!

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

Would you try another book from Garth Stein and/or Christopher Evan Welch?

No, I need a little more excitement in an audio book than what this had to offer. The narrator did a great job, but I think the story was a little lacking.

Has The Art of Racing in the Rain turned you off from other books in this genre?

Is there a "narrated by dog" genre? If so, I would probably try others, because that's what intrigued me. Most likely there isn't though...

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

    Nothing, the narrator was great.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was a heartfelt story...but just a little boring at times.

    Any additional comments?

After reading the reviews, I really wanted to love this book because it seems most people did. Maybe it's just a personal preference, as I tend to read more suspenseful novels. I thought this would be more light hearted and funny, while it was mostly just kind of depressing and predictable.
