while this was a good book, and James Marsters is the ONLY narrator who should do this series, i found myself wishing for more of the 'old' feel of the first 8 or 9 books. as life progresses in this series, it seems to lose more and more of what kept me coming back.
i want more interaction between Mouse, Bob, Mister, Thomas, and Dresden. i was happy to see Michael back with a larger role, but Molly seemed to only have a kind of cameo role, and Toot Toot was only a slight mention.
i was glad to see less of the blood, gut, and gore. graphic details are just not my thing.
i am excited to see what happens with the newest member of the series, though... the Spirit Entity born from the relationship of Lash and Harry after Lash dies in a selfless act to save Harry.
while not the best book in the series, it wasn't a disappointment either...i guess the old saying 'you can't go home again' is true...but i'll just keep 'holding out for hope', just like always.

i don't know where it went wrong, but this book just didn't have the same effect on me as the others. usually i can't wait for the next one, but if it isn't any better than this one, then don't bother.

it isn't that the writing was bad, or the narration...i can't put my finger on it, but the vibe was wrong. the flow and excitement was just lacking in this one.

still and all, it's a good listen, Khristine Hvam is one of my favorites. i just wish it had the same 'something' as the other books in this series.

Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, 20 years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. Now Brianna, from her 1960s vantage point, has found a disturbing obituary and will risk everything in an attempt to change history.

have fell in love with this series. that being said, i have to share my bafflement as to why the author chose to take previously strong, knowledgeable, women who knew their own minds, and turn them into wishy washy, almost brain dead, moronic females who couldn't make a decent decision if paid to.
Claire was not nearly so badly portrayed in this book as her daughter Brianna, who somehow turned into a bratty, self-absorbed, moronic caricature of what you'd expect. there were times i fast forwarded so's not to have to listen to the stupidity of her thought process, while she again made the wrong decision and caused more trouble than she's worth. (this is why the 3 stars for story)

i am hoping that Ian will turn up more often with his new family in the books to come. i was disappointed at his having been written into an Indian tribe and basically at this point, lost to his real family.

can't remember why, maybe it was one of the cheaper promos... gotta say, i loved the narration! Holter Graham has one of those voices i enjoy listening to. i also enjoyed the idea of this book, and the one area i wished had been downplayed was the descriptive, and sometimes lengthy, sexual situations. i'd rather have some things left to the imagination, although it is not the worst i've listened to by any stretch of the imagination.
but, even though i thought there was too much time given to the love life, or lack thereof, of the main characters, i really enjoyed listening to this one.
i am concerned about the multiple narrators in this series...for me the narrator makes or breaks a book, and Holter Graham has become the heart of this series for me. ( as with the Dresden Files, changing the narrator breaks the spell of the series...)

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

out of 4 parts, i really only liked 1 completely. i don't know if it's the odd cadence of the narration or what. i do like the idea of the story line, but much of it was seemed overkill. some of the voices were very similar, but in all fairness, there are a vast cast of characters.
i don't believe i'll buy the rest of the series though, as the plots were too drawn out for me and sometimes i just didn't care for the outcome for the character involved.

I loved this series until I started the 4th book. While MacLeod Andrews is a very good narrator, his portrayal of Grim has really brought the enjoyment level of this book down. I suppose it's in a effort to try to make the cat character sound like he is purring, but it only succeeds in sounding like whine, whine, whine, moan and groan. Grims voice is so annoying that I have started to dread his part in the book. There is little about the story so far that is uplifting ( I'm only about 2/3rds the way through the first part of the book). So much of it is dark and depressing without enough expectation from the characters to lighten the load.
Still, I am persevering in hopes that the dark will soon end and the hope and light will be just around the corner. Such a disappointment to what was a wonderful series.

It’s been almost a year since October "Toby" Daye averted a war, gave up a county, and suffered personal losses that have left her wishing for a good day’s sleep. She’s tried to focus on her responsibilities - training Quentin, upholding her position as Sylvester’s knight, and paying the bills - but she can’t help feeling like her world is crumbling around her, and her increasingly reckless behavior is beginning to worry even her staunchest supporters. To make matters worse, Toby’s just been asked to find another missing child…only this time it’s the changeling daughter of her fellow knight....

Good as always for this team...but I am hoping the next book tops them all. I'm feeling as if Ms McGuire is getting a bit tired of the series. It seems to be lacking in the first books wit and humor as if she's struggling to come up with different story lines for her heroine and heroes.
I did see another book that appears to be in the same series, October Daye, called 'Nacht Mayhr'... I hope to see it here in Audible soon.

I loved the first book in this series and looked forward to this one. Although good, it was not as good as the first. The story line dragged on without the 'I can't wait to hear more'.
I found myself thinking 'get on with it, will ya, already!'
I liked the narration quite well, and will probably take a chance when the next book comes out in this series...i hope there is a next one...lol

this story had the most wonderful opportunity to make the reader feel the most wonderful, uplifted and soul restored in their life... guess what...? made me feel an overwhelming dispair in the pit of my stomach that took years to go away.
it is just now that i am able to comment on this story, as the heartfelt sickness overtook my ability to snap out of it quickly, as i usually can. this author has an exceptional ability to bring the reader into the story...too bad the story turned out to be so sickenly dark.
the narrators were without doubt wonderful, the only reason i was able finish the book, in hopes the possible end i saw in sight would prevail...it didn't.

very disappointed with this book. i had seen the commercials for the movie and thought it would be a very good show to watch. so when i saw it listed on audible, i went ahead and got it. just AWFUL!!!
very 'wordy', nd detailed in places there was no reason for it. nothing about the book made me want to listen to the rest of it. i missed a lot of it as i just removed the earbuds for periods of time, hoping to miss the lengthy, irritating, unnecessary details.
gotta say, after this 'listen', which i intend to return, i'm not so interested in watching the movie.
just to be fair, the narrator isn't bad, just the book...
