Fascinating history of how the study of natural science originated in England, providing for the first time a hope of replacing universal superstition and ignorance. Focuses on investigations conducted during the 1600s, mostly in England and also in Germany, Holland, France, Italy.
First thing I did when I finished the book was to begin it again; it was that enjoyable and informative. Thank you, Edward Dolnick, wherever you are !
Ken Follett's expertise in history and accurate accents came through clearly in this interview and convinced me without question that I wanted to experience his most magnificent undertaking, a true tour de force. He brings history to life, despite the massive challenge of presenting characters from four "giants" -- nations that are waging war and striving for peace. This interview is about a fascinating, epic book.
Of all the books I have read in my lifetime, George R. Stewart's EARTH ABIDES is my all-time favorite. I watch for copies to give to favored fellow readers. Ever since my first reading of it, this book has changed how I look at my life, my relationships, and what we humans call civilization.
Would that history classes had been as realistic and captivating as this book! Can't WAIT to dive into another decades-full adventure with this author!
An awesomely easy way to absorb Spanish words, phrases, and sentences! They pop into my mind at appropriate moments -- and I didn't even know I was learning them. All I did was repeatedly play for myself the musical "lessons" of this audible book.
An intriguing story, for sure, if you are enthralled by historical fiction -- but expect also frank and realistic battle descriptions. You'll never picture "war" the same again.
I have never laughed out loud so often while reading a book! Nor have I shared tidbits and whole paragraphs so often with friends or even nearby strangers!
As I read this person's account of her traumatic and challenging adventures, I BECAME her. My reading times transported me out of myself and my own routines and problems, which I greatly enjoyed.
