Stone Barrington is back in New York, and after a rather harrowing sojourn in Key West, he's looking to stay closer to home and work on some simple divorce and custody cases for Woodman & Weld. But when he crosses paths with a fetching Broadway actress-and sometime lip model- Stone gets a little more deeply involved with business than he'd expected. When his new lady love turns out to be a lady with a shady past, Stone and downtown cop Dino Bacchetti realize that her beauty may have an unusually high price.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

A sad story of a confused and unhappy husband. He believes that a woman the opposite of the wife who left him will make him happy.

Would you ever listen to anything by Anne Tyler again?

Not if it was a similar story

Which character – as performed by Joe Barrett – was your favorite?

    none

Two dead bodies changed the course of my life that fall. One of them I knew and the other I'd never laid eyes on until I saw him in the morgue. The first was a local PI of suspect reputation. He'd been gunned down near the beach at Santa Teresa. It looked like a robbery gone bad. The other was on the beach six weeks later. He'd been sleeping rough. Probably homeless. No identification. A slip of paper with Millhone's name and number was in his pants pocket. The coroner asked her to come to the morgue to see if she could ID him.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Book was too long. An abridged version might be better. Too much attention to details that did not add to the story.

Would you be willing to try another book from Sue Grafton? Why or why not?

I have listened to or read all in the series.

Have you listened to any of Judy Kaye’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    excellent job portraying the character

Could you see W Is for Wasted being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No. Not one of her better efforts.

    Any additional comments?

The story was predictable. Nice to know that Kinsey will now have a retirement income. Please return to story formats that include less extraneous details.

Mrs. Bunny Starch, the most feared biology teacher ever, was last seen during a field trip to Black Vine Swamp. The school's headmaster and the police seem to have accepted the sketchy, unsigned note explaining that her absence is due to a family emergency. Theres no real evidence of foul play. But still, Nick and Marta don't buy it. Something weird is definitely going on.

Carl Hiaasen is a columnist for the Miami Herald and is the author of many best-selling titles, including Sick Puppy, Nature Girl, and The Downhill Lie.

Monotone, single voice for all characters, Does not make the story come alive

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Scat?

    Ed Asner

He's a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He's also a knight errant who's wary of credit cards, retirement benefits, political parties, mortgages, and television. He only works when his cash runs out, and his rule is simple: he'll help you find whatever was taken from you, as long as he can keep half.
