Millions of people have thrilled to best-selling authors Bill O'Reilly and historian Martin Dugard's Killing Kennedy and Killing Lincoln, works of nonfiction that have changed the way we view history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor details the events leading up to the murder of the most influential man in history: Jesus of Nazareth. Nearly 2,000 years after this beloved and controversial young revolutionary was brutally killed by Roman soldiers, more than 2.2 billion human beings attempt to follow his teachings and believe he is God.

I don't care for O'Reilly on TV. Too much interrupting. As an author and narrator, he's great. As with his other "Killing" books (Kennedy and Lincoln), the author was able to put me in the action. Great book and a solid performance.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold ""human error"" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

This is a story everyone knows. Yet the author was able to get me to seen in a new way - to put me in the middle of the battle. I was able to understand the thoughts and feelings of the combatants as if I was there. This is an amazing book.

The first in a mesmerizing four-book original series, Prodigal Son is a brilliant re-imagining and updating of the classic Frankenstein story that only Dean Koontz could conceive. Two hundred years old, the "monster", Deucalion, is a monster no more. Literate and intelligent, he arrives in modern-day New Orleans, where he will join forces with a street-smart police detective and her partner on the trail of a macabre serial killer.

Great story but these five short books should really ave been two longer books. Book one is the only one of the five that stands alone. Other than feeling a bit overcharged for the extra volumes, I enjoyed the series. Very entertaining and very creative. Too bad that Scott Brick couldn't have narrated all of them.

Calvin Coolidge, president from 1923 to 1929, never rated highly in polls, and history has remembered the decade in which he served as an extravagant period predating the Great Depression. Now Amity Shlaes provides a fresh look at the 1920s and its elusive president, showing that the mid-1920s was in fact a triumphant period that established our modern way of life: The nation electrified, Americans drove their first cars, and the federal deficit was replaced with a surplus.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Perhaps it's not fair to judge a book after decades of hype. It's hard not to expect too much. The story line was good; interesting and somewhat unpredictable. The performance was excellent. Dune was a solid read - just not one of my favorites.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

  • Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, and the Education of a President

The hidden history of Wall Street and the White House comes down to a single American concept: confidence. Both centers of power, New York and Washington, learned how to manufacture it - until August 2007, when that confidence began to crumble. Ron Suskind here tells the story of what happened next, as Wall Street struggled to save itself while a man with little experience and soaring rhetoric emerged from obscurity to usher in "a new era of responsibility".

I was looking for the story of government's dealings with the Wall street debacle of the last few years. Unfortunately, the author's bias ruined what could have been a fascinating story of greed and collusion. If you believe that Obama and the democrats can do no wrong, you will love this book. But if you are looking for an accounting of the actual events of 2007-2010 with the credit and blame falling where the events dictate - keep looking. Too bad.

Difficult to rate on a 5 star scale. I wanted to give it a 4.5.
Massive and comprehensive. Filled with detail of little known events. The author's first-hand account of events is incredible. I was reluctant to get into such a long book but it was well worth it. The narrator turned in a masterful performance. My advice to anyone starting this would be to have some historical maps at hand. Great book.

The anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American history—how one gunshot changed the country forever. In the spring of 1865, the bloody saga of America's Civil War finally comes to an end after a series of increasingly harrowing battles. President Abraham Lincoln's generous terms for Robert E. Lee's surrender are devised to fulfill Lincoln's dream of healing a divided nation. But one man and his band of murderous accomplices are not appeased....

Great story. Very well written. If only Bill O'Reilly could pronounce CAVALRY. The word is used at least 100 times - each time pronounced CALvary. Too bad because it distracted me from a great story. I look forward to his next historical book.
