Most people are both repelled and intrigued by the images of cold-blooded, conscienceless murderers that increasingly populate our movies, television programs, and newspaper headlines. With their flagrant criminal violation of society's rules, serial killers like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy are among the most dramatic examples of the psychopath. Individuals with this personality disorder are fully aware of the consequences of their actions and know the difference between right and wrong....

If you could sum up Without Conscience in three words, what would they be?

The research and explanations of this little understood mental dysfunction are worth investigating. Many people are the victims of sociopaths, also called psychopaths; they are not considered insane, but often very clear thinkers having no conscience. One researcher writes, "Sociopaths learn early on to show sham emotion, but underneath they live only to dominate others and win."Another writes, "Good people are rarely suspicious: they cannot imagine others doing the things they themselves are incapable of doing."

What about Paul Boehmer’s performance did you like?

    Narrator was clear and interesting.

Ombria. It is a city that echoes with the footfalls of sapphire-heeled shoes...that holds its breath as a straw-haired apparition glides through its streets...that sees its dreams-and nightmares-take shape in the drawings of a bastard-heir. It is an enchanted time and place envisioned by World Fantasy Award winner Patricia A. McKillip, acclaimed author of The Tower at Stony Wood....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Ombria in Shadow was an excellent story, narrated well and kept your interest. All McKillip's books are excellent. Some readers want more action, but action is too easy -- characters are what makes the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ombria in Shadow?

The witch's coming to really love another person and care what happened to her: her waxling.

Which character – as performed by Dina Pearlman – was your favorite?

    The ancient witch.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I enjoyed taking time to listen and think about the next evenings sitting.

    Any additional comments?

    Great author!
