What made the experience of listening to Damn Few the most enjoyable?

The story of the Seals is awesome. The camaraderie, pride and excellence championed by the Seals inspires me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Damn Few?

Rorke's telling of the last couple of days of hell week tend to stand out the most to me. The hallucinations and the "steel pier" experience are particularly noteworthy.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I think the narrator made the story as well as detracted. The fact that it was the "real" guy telling the story helped. His monotone delivery and somewhat dry style didn't help the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I loved it when he talked about his daughters and the lessons he wanted to teach them.

    Any additional comments?

    Well worth the purchase.

  • The Return of the King: Book Three in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy

The Return of the King is the towering climax to J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy that tells the saga of the hobbits of Middle-earth and the great War of the Rings. In this concluding volume, Frodo and Sam make a terrible journey to the heart of the Land of the Shadow in a final reckoning with the power of Sauron. In addition to narrating the prose passages, Rob Inglis sings the trilogy’s songs and poems a capella, using melodies composed by Inglis and Claudia Howard, the Recorded Books studio director.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Return of the King to be better than the print version?

Not really. Two different mediums, two different audiences, two different feels.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Return of the King?

I love the interaction between Sam and Gollum. It makes it even more fun when you know that in the end, Gollum really is an essential part of the quest.

What about Rob Inglis’s performance did you like?

Loved his portrayal of Gollum! When I hear Gollum talk in my head, it's Inglis's voice that dominates.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I can never stay awake long enough to listen to much of anything in one sitting. It was certainly a book that I wanted to get back to when time allowed.

    Any additional comments?

    Awesome story. Masterpiece.

Five thousand years out of the Labyrinth, the Minotaur finds himself in the American South, living in a trailer park and working as a line cook at a steakhouse. No longer a devourer of human flesh, the Minotaur is a socially inept, lonely creature with very human needs. But over a two-week period, as his life dissolves into chaos, this broken and alienated immortal awakens to the possibility for happiness and to the capacity for love.

Cathy says: "Full of surprises, delightfully unexpected"
"Novel storyline; Had lots of potential..."

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It was on the bottom end of the scale of "well-spent". I enjoyed a lot of the story. I loved the way the Minotaur was just accepted into the world as another person. I was hoping for more light-hearted moments and the story really seemed to get darker and more depressing as it went along.

If you’ve listened to books by Steven Sherrill before, how does this one compare?

Have never listened to any other books by Sherrill.

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

It was decent. Nothing really stands out as awesome. Nothing detracted, either.

Could you see The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break: A Novel being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think it is too depressing to become mainstream. I think the concept could be used to create a TV series, something like Once Upon A Time...

    Any additional comments?

Worth the read, but I won't be writing home to mom about it...
