Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

    Overall

I finished the Dark Tower series a while back and I was skimming through some of the reviews and I found some nasty reviews from readers that picked up the Dark Tower series in odd places.
When I started this book many years back, I began with Dark Tower IV:Wizard and Glass. At the time, it was confusing, but the story line was excellent. These books could stand alone, but makes a lot more sense if people start from the beginning (The Gunslinger).
It does not deserve bad reviews given below by a few. Would you read the second book Lord of the Ring and criticize that it doesn't make any sense? Ending was weird?
IF books come in series, please read them in order and then review if you are going to criticize the writing.
