Graham Greene’s evocative analysis of the love of self, the love of another, and the love of God is an English classic that has been translated for the stage, the screen, and even the opera house. Academy Award-winning actor Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, A Single Man) turns in an authentic and stirring performance for this distinguished audio release.

Thoroughly enjoyed Colin Firth's performance. I would probably enjoy listening to him read a dictionary. The story itself is frustrating in its efforts to deal with religious beliefs perhaps because it was written in an earlier era and is a bit dated.

Diana just gets better. Some books in the series were a bit winding and wordy, but this one held my interest throughout. Claire as a sexy grandma. How delightful. Still loving her series. Davina Porter's performance is as wonderful as ever.

Master novelist Daniel Silva has thrilled listeners with 16 thoughtful and gripping spy novels featuring a diverse cast of compelling characters and ingenious plots that have taken them around the globe and back - from the United States to Europe, Russia to the Middle East. His brilliant creation, Gabriel Allon - art restorer, assassin, spy - has joined the pantheon of great fictional secret agents, including George Smiley, Jack Ryan, Jason Bourne, and Simon Templar.

    Story

This was my first Silva novel and will probably be my last. Had a really hard time finishing this book though I had previously enjoyed stories about the art world. Perhaps this was a bit to political for me...not sure. I hung in because George Guidall is one of my favorite performers and I was hoping to care a bit about the characters.....never happened.

The governor of North Carolina has appointed Deborah to a judicial seat in the District Court Division. On her weekends, the fledgling judge has been helping an all-woman building crew complete a home for a needy single mother. Her attempts to gain positive P.R. go awry when her niece is found battered and half-naked in the partially completed home, with Deborah's own bloody hammer lying nearby.

Pirriwee Public's annual school Trivia Night has ended in a shocking riot. One parent is dead. The school principal is horrified. As police investigate what appears to have been a tragic accident, signs begin to indicate that this devastating death might have been cold-blooded murder. In this thought-provoking novel, number-one New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty deftly explores the reality of parenting and playground politics, ex-husbands and ex-wives, and fractured families.

    Story

Having changed genres from the last book, it took me awhile to understand and appreciate the cadence of this story. The story was cleverly delivered and once I finally sorted out the movement from past to present, and the many characters, I appreciated how well the characters and situation came to life for me. The characters became relatable and I was there with them in the story. I enjoyed the performance save one attempt to perform an American accent (the westerner had the accent of a southerner.) otherwise, good Aussie narration.

Harold and Lucille Hargrave's lives have been both joyful and sorrowful in the decades since their only son, Jacob, died tragically at his eighth birthday party in 1966. In their old age they've settled comfortably into life without him, their wounds healed through the grace of time.... Until one day Jacob mysteriously appears on their doorstep - flesh and blood, their sweet, precocious child, still eight years old. All over the world people's loved ones are returning from beyond.

The premise is interesting and a wish fulfilling difficult subject. The author took the premise in a particular direction but examines it on a fairly shallow level. How would you deal with the return of a loved one? How would nations deal with the return of thousands of deceased and why didn't the author deal with potential return of famous historical figures both revered and hated?

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

    Story

I remember the Vietnam war years well, feared the draft for all men and knew the US involvement was wrong. President Carter once said that War is a necessary Evil...but it is evil. This war was an unnecessary evil.

I bought this book to hear Bryan Cranston. His narration was expert and when it ended, I stopped listening to the remainder of the book. What Johnson, Nixon, McNamara and the Military Complex did to the generation who fought this war was continues to plague my generation and our nation. I wish all Vietnam veterans could be miraculously healed and made whole again, but retelling the sins of war isn't the path.
