Ann portrays Cherry whenever the singer is too indisposed - meaning wasted - to go out in public. And it is Ann-mistaken-for-Cherry who is kidnapped from a South Beach hotel by obsessed paparazzo Bang Abbott.

    Overall

I have only listened to about an hours worth so far, but have found myself laughing out loud a number of times. Hiaasen's off the wall descriptions of people and places are still hilareous. Especially to those of us who have lived in Florida for many years.

At 23, Ruth Saunders headed west with her 70-year-old grandma in tow, hoping to be hired as a television writer. Four years later, she's hit the jackpot when she gets The Call: the sitcom she wrote, The Next Big Thing, has gotten the green light, and Ruthie's going to be the show-runner. But her dreams of Hollywood happiness are threatened by demanding actors, number-crunching executives, an unrequited crush on a boss, and her grandmother's impending nuptials.

The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Well it's not Hiaasen. Was pretty disappointed it's not his regular humorous tales. It's pretty depressing.

Depends on what they were looking for.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

  • South of Broad

Against the sumptuous backdrop of Charleston, South Carolina, South of Broad gathers a unique cast of sinners and saints. Leopold Bloom King, our narrator, is the son of an amiable, loving father who teaches science at the local high school. His mother, an ex-nun, is the high school principal and a well-known Joyce scholar. After Leo's older brother commits suicide at the age of 13, the family struggles with the shattering effects of his death, and Leo, lonely and isolated, searches for something to sustain him

Pamela says: "Authors Need to Review Pronunciations"
    "Hating old Charlestonians"
    Overall

As always I enjoyed Pat Conroy. I believe he is a great writer. However, I am begining to think there is an underlining attempt to get the rest of the world to hate the apparently over pompous residents of old Charleston. God forbid if they are really as bad as Chad and his parents. Have only been there once as a tourist and they all seemed eager enough to take my money.
