Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over 10 years on the force, she's seen it all - and knows that her survival depends on her instincts. And she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire - and suspect in Eve's murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about - except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

didnt get to finish this one as the futuristic story line became very tedious. the fake irish accent was grating and i found the whole thing rather trite.

It is the summer of 1976 in Oxfordshire, England, and someone is trying to kill Sally Gilmartin. The only person she can trust is her daughter, Ruth, a young single mother struggling with her own demons. Now Sally must tell her daughter the truth: She is actually Eva Delectorskaya, a Russian émigré recruited for the British Secret Service in 1939.

    "Thoroughly enjoyable"

i enjoyed this book immensely. The narration was superb by Rosamund Pike adding to the english setting. The story itself certainly kept me interested right to the end and as a mystery novel the ending didnt disappoint. All in all an excellent choice.

In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

Neal says: "Funny and Fascinating, A Wonderful Book"
    "Annoying Voice"
    Overall

The story of this book is quite interesting but the narrators flat voice just droned on with almost no change in inflection, that it got to the stage where i couldnt stand it any longer. Poor Smithy had to be left somewhere along his ride as it became impossible to listen any more. A shame really because the story was good. Maybe i will buy the book!

My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973. My murderer was a man from our neighborhood. My mother liked his border flowers, and my father talked to him once about fertilizer. This is Susie Salmon. Watching from heaven, Susie sees her happy suburban family devastated by her death, isolated even from one another as they each try to cope with their terrible loss alone.

    Lia says: "Unexpected"
    "Way too long"
    Overall

the story was enjoyable for the first three quarters of the book, but the last third just went on and on and on. 15 minutes describing the wet washing on the line or the organization of a vegetable patch. could have been 2 hours shorter.
