The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in 25 years than the Romans did in 400. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization.

    Peter says: "Brilliant, insightful, intriguing."
    "Extremelly boring"
    Overall

I'm half way and really trying very hard not quiting.
I've listened to tons of audibles now, but this one is by far the worst.
The narrator is ok but he can't pull it off, unfortunately..

This monumental book tells the enthralling story of one of the greatest accomplishments in our nation's history, the building of what was then the longest suspension bridge in the world. The Brooklyn Bridge rose out of the expansive era following the Civil War, when Americans believed all things were possible.

I must say that I had high expectatons about this book but I was disappointed to find out that this was not a novel, but a chronicle about every single engineering and political detail behind the making of the bridge.

My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973. My murderer was a man from our neighborhood. My mother liked his border flowers, and my father talked to him once about fertilizer. This is Susie Salmon. Watching from heaven, Susie sees her happy suburban family devastated by her death, isolated even from one another as they each try to cope with their terrible loss alone.

What a drag of a book!
I regreted buying it pretty soon but I decided to give it a go anyway... I can't say that I recommend it... to put it that way.

When Pippa Dunn, adopted as an infant and raised terribly British, discovers that her birth parents are from the American South, she finds that "culture clash" has layers of meaning she'd never imagined. Meet The English American, a fabulously funny, deeply poignant debut novel that sprang from Alison Larkin's autobiographical one-woman show of the same name.

    Michael says: "Outstanding"
    "Alison Larkin is hillarious"
    Overall

I loved this book! Alison Larkin is the best narrator ever and she can write too!
