Muy decepcionado y no precisamente por el contenido sino por la narración! Parece leído por una máquina, sin inflexiones, sin cambios de voz y sin pausas.
Un buen libro hecho trizas por una más que pésima narración :(
As the first three other books of the series the story is full of fantastic explanation of plates regional cousin, wines and region plus a good picture of the culture and personality, in this case the Italians. All this mixed with a “mystery” not as interesting as the food descriptions but good enough to keep you reading
The sketch of the restaurants kitchen during operation is really good but I was surprised when I started listening to “beeps” each time one of the chef was saying a bad word! I have not seen the paper version of the book but I don’t imagine a “beep” to cover a bad word in written… This is the first time in all this years I listen to s censored audiobook.
As usual the narrator does a great job and I when finished book I went directly to the kitchen to eat!
In order to enjoy this book you need to understand the date it was written. All the big sexual revolution started that decade, the attitude and behaves of man and women must be understood based on the time of the history and not the way we expect or assume modern man and woman behaves.
This is my first encounter with John McDonald and Travis McGee. Although I am not young but my native language is Spanish and I have not seen any translation of this author’s novels. I really enjoyed the psychological aspects. I'm sure the reaction of a woman who has been abused in these times is not very different from that described in the novel.
I am looking forward to listen and read (thanks to Whispersync) the rest of the series as i as sure that both McDonald and McGee will change as time pass by, 20 years is a lot of time and lots of changes.
The narration was very good and perfect for a person like me that speaks English as a second language. I liked the pace, the intonation and the cadence of the narrator’s voice.
Este es un ejemplo de un buen libro destrozado por una terrible narración, sin inflexiones, sin cambios de tono de voz, sin pausas. Al final compré la versión impresa para poder disfrutar la historia.
This is an example of a good book ruined by a terrible narration: without inflection, without changes in tone of voice, without pauses. At the end I bought the printed version to enjoy the story.
If you are 60 or older this book is for you because it will really take you to the past you know.
I simply could not stop listening. I bookmarked a lot to go back to listen a perfect narration of an amazing love story and a very well documented modern history review.
As a Spencer’s fan to be able to continue to enjoy the reading his histories is fabulous news.
There is one thing that changed (for good): The frequency of “I said… He said” has been reduced to a minimum! This makes the reading more fluent and enjoyable.
When I started to listen the book I though it was going to be promising and actually I recommended it, After finishing the book I would prefer to recommend others on the same subject.
US readers are not the only listeners of this kind of books, Although there is an article regarding metric measurements all the book is about pounds, cups, degrees Fahrenheit, etc.The same is abut the regulation entities like FDA.
There is too much repetition of basic concepts and I did not see any relation or mention to the recipes in the pdf cookbook and the subjects in the different chapters.
Anyway I learned a few things form this books so I do not consider it a waist of credits.
I have a solid background on probabilities and statistics and technically I didn't learn a lot from the book but the examples, a lot of them!, are the best.
Explain probabilities, normal distribution and variance without a graphics, whiteboard or paper to people without mathematical background is really difficult and this book with very good examples does it!
Excellent reading for everybody.
Very few times in my life I have read books that make you rethink or reconsider the moral schemes, social, attitude at work and how to address problems and challenges.
Just finished reading one of those books. Until today I was one who thought that common sense is the least common of the senses. After reading now I am convinced that decisions based on common sense are wrong by default.
Like good potato chips, if you take the first, you cannot stop. I will not wait for my new credits to download the rest of the series!
