The visionary creator of the Academy Award-winning Pan's Labyrinth and a Hammett Award-winning author bring their imaginations to this bold, epic novel about a horrifying battle between man and vampire that threatens all humanity. It is the first installment in a thrilling trilogy and an extraordinary international publishing event.

    Overall

I picked this book up because of Guillermo Del Toro.
I was expecting something fresh and new but ended up with a mix of Dracula meets CSI meets Blade, which was not bad.
The story is well written but at times becomes a bit much with all of the detailed explanations.
On the whole the story flows and does not alienate the reader.

Ron Perlman did a fantastic job reading.

I will definitely be picking up the next installment of the trilogy.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

The story was well written, has great character development, the actual story flows well and the narrators fit the characters. All and all a good read for someone who enjoys this genre. With all that said I cannot say that I enjoyed this book. Just one of those rare books that although it covered all the bases but was not my cup of tea.

    ***Spoiler***
I should also warn that the ending was disappointing but some people don’t mind a story that does not end neatly.

I have to admit I allowed myself to get caught up by the hype, unfortunately that is all it was, HYPE. Overall the actual writing flowed but that’s as positive as I can get. The plot was and characters were cliché and agonizingly predictable.

As far as the narration is concerned I thought the Roxanne Hernandez and Blas Kisic did not fit the characters they were voicing causing the narration to fall flat. The only silver lining is that they both spoke Spanish very well; I have a sneaking suspicion that’s the only requirement they need to fill in order to qualify for this gig. Roxanne Hernandez has a very adult voice for the teenager she was portraying, to mask this she seemed to put on an annoying voice, as for Blas Kisic he has a middle age man’s voice and was completely unapologetic about it which throw me off since the character he voiced was eighteen.

I really wanted to like this book but I cannot say I will ever re-read this or much less recommend it to anyone.

She is the last of her kind...It is not a peaceful time in the Dells. In King City, the young King Nash is clinging to the throne, while rebel lords in the north and south build armies to unseat him. War is coming. And the mountains and forest are filled with spies and thieves. This is where Fire lives, a girl whose beauty is impossibly irresistible and who can control the minds of everyone around her.

What a disappointment. I really enjoyed Graceling and decided to buy Fire right after I finished it. What a mistake!

I hated everything about this book. The plot and the characters did not hold my interest.

So...you'd think after banishing an immortal being and a fallen High Priestess, saving Stark's life, biting Heath, getting a headache from Erik, and almost dying, Zoey Redbird would catch a break. Sadly, a break is not in the House of Night school forecast for the High Priestess in training and her gang. Juggling three guys is anything but a stress reliever, especially when one of them is a sexy Warrior who is so into protecting Zoey that he can sense her emotions.

    "What's the point again?"
    Overall

    What's the point?

The plot quickly gets lost in the endless characters and drawn out dialogs.
By the way what is the deal with all of the love interests?
Although this book is way better than Hunted (Book #5) I don't think that I will continue reading this series.

Cassandra Morris did a good job narrating The Darkest Powers series not so much on this book.

Micah will freely admit she's a compulsive liar, but that may be the one honest thing she'll ever tell you. Over the years she's fooled everyone: her classmates, her teachers, even her parents. And she's always managed to stay one step ahead of her lies. That is, until her boyfriend dies under brutal circumstances and her dishonesty begins to catch up with her. But is it possible to tell the truth when lying comes as easily as breathing?

Not what I expected and that is probably what I liked most. The plot was well thought out and fabulously put together. It was full of twists and turns and totally had me going.

The narrator was subpar but I got over it.

The good news: Zoey's friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren't Neferet's secrets any longer. The bad news: Ancient evil with the face of an angel has been let loose - that and various other nasties (whose faces aren't so angelic). Grandma Redbird is in trouble. Heath is in trouble. The House of Night is in trouble. Okay, let's face it - Zoey's whole world is in trouble!

This was obviously supposed to be a transitional
book but the problem is that it is so hastily
put together that it just ends up being boring
and drawn out. The book goes nowhere fast. Save
your credit this is a waste.
