Within the pages of very rare books, some centuries old, lie the secrets of the paranormal. Abby Radwell’s unusual psychic talent has made her an expert in such volumes - and sometimes taken her into dangerous territory. After a deadly incident in the private library of an obsessive collector, Abby receives a blackmail threat, and rumors swirl that an old alchemical text known as The Key has reappeared on the black market.

Would you try another book from Jayne Ann Krentz and/or Tanya Eby?

YesI like both the Author and Narrator

I am not sure if it's me but i just could not get really drawn into the book

This is an arcane style story with out any mention of the Arcane Society or Jones and Jones etc but this should not matter if the story compels

I also think this will be a series set around the Coppersmith Siblings not the normal arcane past, present and future trilogy format.

Maybe I will feel different after a reread.

It's not as if it's a bad story it's just not one that drags you into it's world deeply . . . at least for me.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Not bad with a twist some may not have seen coming but a bit rushed all the same

What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tanya's character voices are distinct but as is the case in most books with a male and female lead i think audiobooks would be better served with male & female narrators. This is no reflection on Tanya as All female narrators can't do an excellent full range of male voices just as male narrators can't do female voice really well.

In fact i think female narrators do a more credible job of the male voices as a whole that the male narrators do of female voices

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Movies are never as good as the books . . .

Seventeen-year-old Nikki and her twin brother, Nathan, move to the small town of Shore Lake to start over after their mother is brutally attacked. When a missing teenager washes up on shore during their first night at the cabin and there are whispers of vampires in Shore Lake, Nikki begins to realize that there are things roaming in the darkness that are far more sinister than what they left behind in the city.

Murder, Rape, mind control, bad narrator, Rubbish.

All of the above refer to this drivel, the daughter is a mindless idiot who keeps things to herself, because without any proof otherwise the vamp that is stalking her simply can't be a killer, her brother and friend have a little more intellect, but feel they can still take down a vamp weaponless and untrained.

People are dropping like flies but everyone just goes on as usual. The narrator is a monochromic speed reader, who appears to realise the drivel she is narration and wants to get through it as quickly as possible.

I got this on a whisper sync deal so in order to post this review i will keep this rubbish not ask for a refund.

I think the reason this is so cheap is because it's such childish rubbish. The idea of a group of vampires in an area is not new and this brings nothing to genre unless you count that apparently these vamps can take daylight, but they don't sparkle.

why this even made it to an audiobook when they are many more deserving titles out there is beyond me

DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS ONE UNLESS VERY VERY DESPERATE

Nice idea but never feed a dog chicken, the bones are to brittle and really, feeding any cooked bone to your dog is dangerous because cooked bones may splinter and damage the stomach and intestines. Raw bones do not normally splinter and are thus preferred

When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama ("Rue" to her friends) is bequeathed an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female under similar circumstances would do: she christens it the Spotted Custard and floats off to India. Soon she stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves.

It's going to take awhile, if ever to get used to narrator. Whilst Ms Quirk did an excellent job with the Finishing School series, this series I feel would have been better served using Ms Gray from the original series, as this is basically continuing on from Parasol where Finishing School was a an earlier side step with some of the original character in earlier lives and in most cases smaller roles

It's just that characters we know and love have a different vioce interpretation . . . it's not bad narration just not what we are used to

I remember reading this many years ago, now it being released to audio and i am very grateful - first because its a great series and second because even with Modsitt's audio ramblings during his books and the length, it's well executed and narrated.

i would recommend this book and hopefully this series to all who like epic well written fantasy.

One hopes they keep the Narrator

NASA discovered the alien ship lurking in the asteroid belt in the 1960's. They kept the Target under intense surveillance for decades, letting the public believe they were exploring the solar system, while they worked feverishly to refine the technology needed to reach it. Dr. Jane Holloway is content documenting nearly-extinct languages and had never contemplated becoming an astronaut. But when NASA recruits her to join a team of military scientists for an expedition to the Target, it's an adventure she can't refuse.

A lot of good ideas with some some a bit too far fetched but still believable within the story.

A must read for any science fiction / fantasy fan

A good narrator seals a excellent package

Excellent spin on the supernatural world - just be aware that there are some very descriptive sex scenes (although they don't take over the book like some authors) and use of colourful language, (again it exists but there are must worse out there) so if such things put you off then this book is probably not for you. which would be a pity as it well worth the purchase and listen.

    The narrator is excellent

Does one need four fully-grown foxgloves for decorating a dinner table for six guests? Or is it six foxgloves to kill four fully-grown guests? Sophronia's first year at school has certainly been rousing. First, her finishing school is training her to be a spy. (Won't Mumsy be surprised!) Secondly, she gets mixed up in an intrigue over a stolen device and has a cheese pie thrown at her.

Another great Steampunk romp from Gail Carrier with an excellent narration from Moira Quirk.

This is the second in this series set before the timeline of the excellent Parasol Protectorate series. it even includes younger versions of some of the characters or their relations from the original series. Whilst the technology is earlier there is a definite Steampunk vibe to the story arc and of course the same supernatural races are woven into the tale.

The story is told in Ms Carriger's irreverent tongue firmly in cheek style of her earlier series and whilst listed as YA it will most definitely appeal to those who love Steampunk and or her earlier series no matter what their age . . .

    enjoy

Olivia Kiskey needs a change. She’s been working at the same Nodaway Falls, New York, waffle house since she was a teenager; not a lot of upward mobility there. She’s been in love with Tobias, the cook, for the last four years; he's never made a move. Intent on shaking things up, Olivia puts her house on the market, buys a one-way ticket to Europe, and announces her plans to her friends - but then she meets Davina Granville, a strange and mystical Southern woman....

    Story

The "heroine" causes 90% of the problems & deaths, in this book and I can't remember the last time i wished for a main character to die quickly, save lives and put us all out of our misery. She "never" appears to learn & she causes more pain and death to her friends because basically she appears to be too stupid to live. She even admits her stupidity several times during the book.

Amanda does a wonderful job with the narration but even she is hard put to save this book.

The plot has promise but Olivia Kiskey (the Heroine) is so clueless to reality she causes harm, damage and death all around her, supposedly in the guise of "doing the right thing", she is the kind of friend who makes it superfluous to have enemies
