Okay so it is not chock full of science, but it is scientific enough for someone who had a few geology classes in college to be reacquainted with familiar terms and events. The book also follows some interesting surfers and their experiences riding giant waves. Personally I thought it was a nice mix of people and science. For any geology teachers out there, this book has extra credit written all over it.
If you want the essence of leadership distilled with scientific precision with practical applications to use today, this is your book.
John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership and call me a freak, but John Maxwell's Study Bible where he mines leadership gold out of the scripture. Leadership powerhouse books.
No, but this was good. Typically I hate books read by the author because there is nothing like a professional narrator, but this was good.
I did laugh when I built my interview question and answer study notes on the concepts of this book and described my leadership skills and abilities using the five major themes of this book, and got called for a second interview! I'm convinced speaking to the five themes will result in securing my next job.
Love the website and additional resources offered by the authors online and as an app.
Imperturbable great leader
His personal handling of his second campaign for the presidency. The whole world was against him and yet he believed in himself. Further he was cool, collected and in control of his emotions. His behavior was admirable and consistent.
I enjoyed his initial experience as a Company Commander. Beautifully written to capture the essence of the experience.
His understanding of the devastation the A-bomb would cause. He understood the gravity of his ability to annihilate life with the power of one decision.
Kudos David McCullough! This was a book every America should read.
Good narration and interesting material
Fascinatingly informative about where garbage in our food and personal products comes from. Compelling book about eating a more plant-centric diet.
Encouraged me to be a better Christian
All - superb narration
I was disappointed with the ending
yes, narration was outstanding and the stries make history absolutely come alive.
The depth of the characters
Yes, LOVE this guy. He was born to be a narrator.
The passage on E. Washburn was masterful. So much depth to the story and the character. I found his story to be unique, powerful and brand new. Our country has been built upon the backs of brave and courageous Americans like Mr. Washburn.
History lovers this is a must read - absolutely captivating.
Narration is excellent - real, believable and not hokey. The story is broad and engaging; the author covers a zillion details around the event of Garfield's assassination, and the story is engaging and fascinating. I never thought much about James Garfield, but after reading this book it is clear that he was a dearly beloved president, American war hero and gentleman. The character revealed in Garfield under hideous circumstances gives evidence that he was a man to be respected and even emulated. Candace Millard made history come alive. Riveting book!
The description of how he endured the suffering - so gracious and honorable!
Fabulous narrator. He was able to change his voice for different characters, but it was never dorky. His narration made the story all the more rich.
Every American should know about this great leader and the story that brought about his tragic death.
The descriptions were graphic and make me long for the movie!
The "snatch" was exciting!
Margret's quote about fear at the end of the book was powerful. The story was powerful!
This is a great book, but it requires so much in-depth thought and asks so many questions that it is really not suitable, in my opinion, for audio format. This type of book must actually be read by turning pages
