An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him. Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high-school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.

Suzn F says: "I confess, I loved it!"
    "Another Great by Grisham!"
    Overall

I hadn't read John Grisham for a few years, and decided to get this one. I am so glad I did, because it was one of the best books I've listened to in a while. I kept thinking this was a true story, and what is scary is that it very well could happen. Definitely worth time time and money to listen to.

In the fall of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths.

Patrick Davis is a man with troubles. First his Hollywood dreams crumble, then his storybook marriage hits a snag. Finally, DVDs start being delivered to his house – DVDs which show that someone is watching him and his wife, that the two of them are being stalked and recorded by cameras hidden around and within their house. Then the e-mails start, and someone offers to fix everything, to take the mess his life has become and make it all right. Patrick figures it's the offer of a lifetime.

Driving onward - against the worst of man and nature - a legendary caravan of men, women and children forge a new link in the wilderness trek from Independence, Missouri to the "Promised Land" beyond the Rockies. They are pioneering Americans from North and South - side-by-side with immigrants, a Black man and an Indian - waging a fierce daily battle for bare survival on an uncompromising journey to their private destinies and the fulfillment of America's greatest dream.

If you like stories about the pioneers traveling West, these are pretty good books to read. I really could do without the history talk, but other than those (and they are few), it is a good read. I'm looking forward to book Number Three!

I thought the synopsis of the book sounded funny and entertaining. Boy was I mistaken!!
I did not care for the English accent of the narrator for one thing, and maybe that is what made me not care for the book. Nope.....it was just boring!

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Anastasia Burke says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"
    "A bit of History"

This was a good listen! Definitely worth the credit to purchase if you like History.

Bo Mason, his wife, and his two boys live a transient life of poverty and despair. Drifting from town to town and from state to state, the violent, ruthless Bo seeks his fortune in the hotel business, in new farmland, and, eventually, in illegal rum-running throughout the treacherous back roads of the American Northwest.

Heimo says: "deeply moving rollercoaster ride"
    "Great Read!"

I simply loved this book, and even though I wanted to see what was going to happen at the end, I didn't want to get to the end, because then it would be over. It's about an everyday family that you could see in any family today if the husband was controlling. A Really Great Read!
