This is my first book by Mary Balogh and I must say I loved the push and pulls between the duke and Jane in this book. The two main characters fall in love, though initially both refuse to admit to it. Unlike most other books, here the arguments and strong personalities keeps the story more engaging and therefore the interactions and love scenes more intense. The duke's inability to accept his likes and wants makes him very mercurial in nature. Though a typical historical romance the behavior of the characters keep you guessing all the way to the end and so I loved this book and recommend it fully.
Nate and Jules are both very perfect looking, tall, sexy, gorgeous, smart, hard working, very hot for each other and how could you not, and he is also very rich. Nate also showers her with expensive gifts and gives her a no limit card to Neiman's. So extremely generous too. Guys like that are a dime a dozen as we all know. Oh and all other characters are also perfect looking and kind and tall and.... One character was beautiful but not so nice so of course she got fired but others are all kind and thoughtful and even good looking. Nate and Jules were both so perfect that you wonder where the excitement of the book would come from. And of course there was not much excitement. I was a bit bored and found myself zoning off throughout the book especially during sex scenes. I usually like that added sex to well written stories but I don't like it to be the main attraction with no story to carry it along. Not to ruin the book for anyone but they fall very hard for each other then less than two weeks of dating they both admit to being in love with the other. Oh yes and the moving in together happened as quickly as well. The story was unrealistic enough that I found it hard to identify with the characters. I'm glad I got this book on sale or I would have not been happy right now.
I also really dislike Jennifer Mack's narration as a man. Her male voices sound young, choking as if they have something stuck in their throats and irritating although her female voice is good. I personally can't get into a male character with a voice like that.
The story was very shallow. Characters lacked depth and the heroine was childish in the manner she kept pushing the hero away and then pulling him back in. Bipolar acting in almost every scene in response to him. And then Sarah Castille decides to end the story and all of a sudden the mystery as to how to beat this huge and powerful law firm becomes child's play. It is all fixed within just a few lines in the book and the world is put to rights again while the heroine is almost over night able to accept love in her life. Ugh. I am glad this book is over but I am disappointed that so much potential for this book went down the tube so fast. I was really looking forward to reading this book.
The story was not bad but it lacked that excitement element. Liked that the heroine was "chubby" but the fact that the hero was a hunk made the story unbelievable. People usually become who they want to attract and if the guy is that hot, it is unlikely he would go for her. Almost makes one think that this story was what J Crusie wishes would happen. I do wish we lived in a world where the inner beauty counted and the outer shell was icing on the cake, but as we all know that is not real life. this aspect of the story made it unbelievable and unlikely. A negative in my opinion.
I usually evaluate a book by my reaction to it. If I can't put it down, it is well written, engaging and well performed and if I can walk away and stay away for hours at a time, well, then it is not a winner. The book was not bad but it was not good either. I'd say don't waist your credit on this one.
Thank you for reading my feedback and thank you for leaving me a response.
It was not a bad story but the heroine who was supposed to be very clever and smart sure made some stupid decisions. I enjoyed the twist at the end of the story which I did not expect but that's only because the villein's character was so poorly developed that at the end it could have been anyone. The story was a bit stretched and a little unbelievable but overall I'd say it ended up being a solid 3.
My first book by this author and I hate to say I was bored out of my mind after the initial half of the book. I felt the book quickly lost that draw needed to have it be a page turner and what I felt could have been a great story soon became a book I listened to by fast forwarding. So I definitely did not enjoy this one. Sorry
The narrator was great with all voices except the highlander himself. The voice was not only NOT sexy it was so bad I cringed.
I am so disappointed in this book by Eloisa James. I have always really enjoyed reading her books and could NOT wait to start this one. So much so that I fast forward listened to the book I was reading at the time just so that I could start this one sooner. Ok the other book bore me out of my mind too but that was not the reason for the urgency especially since I have 8 other books in my library I have been wanting to read.
This book started up great until the wedding night and then boom. All that joy was replaced with frustration and anger. Are we to believe as readers that a strong character such as the heroine would not speak up about the details of her condition? And then to continue on making the plot even more stupid by adding more to the ridiculousness of the story to the point she flees London pregnant???? huh?? And no one knew that she was about 5 months pregnant at that point and the heroine was shocked about the gossip surrounding her. Very believable. Or NOT. Really, I felt like E James could not come up with a better twist and so tried to make this one sound logical and plausible. Well, it did not work. I just got so upset that I spent the rest of the book fuming over the stupidity of the heroine for not speaking out well before the disaster and the hero for behaving poorly again and again and calling his wife a whore and being quick to get rid of her without asking for an explanation. But most of all I was mad about getting this book all together. A complete waist of my time. If you are an E.J. fan you may still enjoy this book but the story was too poor and simplistic and ridiculous for my taste.
This was my first book by Mariana Zapata and my my was it funny. I found myself bursting into out loud laughter throughout the book and will have to listen to it again just to remember some of the great lines she uses in this book. Listen to this book with a pen and paper because you really don't want to miss her clever come backs and smart replies. The story was good too but the clever writing takes the cake.
When I read the Reapers MC books I became completely hooked on MC books. The series were my first experience with the MC books and they were an eye opener for me. Those book really show you the culture of MCs which I admit I was and somewhat still am quite ignorant about. The love story was excellent too in those books. So when I saw this book with good reviews I jumped on it. I enjoyed this book but the love stories are completely predictable with hardly any resistance or difficulties in their relationship before it went from hello to you are mine. Except until the very end, the twists were non existent really. There is almost no real discussion about the club in this story either so if you are not familiar with the clubs, this book will not be informative enough for that. However, that is not the intent of a romance novel and i get that. I just feel it would have added a lot more to the story had it included some more about the club life. But I still did enjoy the story, I am just not sure if I would like to purchase the next ones coming out.
This was my first paranormal with shifting into anything but a wolf. I purchased this book on sale and so my expectations was low, but I was pleasantly surprised to find how on the edge of my seat and imaginative this book was. There are some scenes that bothered me but that's just because of my delicate sensibilities I believe and without it the book would not have have that air of reality to it. Nothing in life is perfect as we wish to see so those scenes just made the book that much more believable. I liked it a lot.
All those 5 stars for this book and this narrator? Seriously? To begin with Elizabeth Powers is awful! The funny pauses and the slowness of her delivery was enough for me to jump off a cliff to save myself from the frustration. The story was soooo weak and simple that I could imagine my 13 year old writing it. A billionaire who is so in love with his assistant that he never slept with anyone else in the four years she worked for him when all they did was battle at work and that's it? Oh yes and to add to it, the matter of him murdering someone was so a okay by the heroine that it was an obvious OF COURSE YOU DID THE RIGHT THING. Yyyyyyah. Veeeeery believable. Just a ridiculous story, poorly written and with unbelievable characters. I say don't waist your credit or time. Move on to something better.
