Anyone who listens to Maya Banks know that she is a very talented author when it comes to this genre and her books, rather than becoming stale, thankfully seem to be getting better and better as she skilfully handles the character's temperaments rather than just the temperature that can be reached.
This one focuses more on the emotional side of the ménage as the once childhood best friends each come to terms with the impact on their lives a ménage will make but the alternative is just too unbearable to contemplate and we then see the doubts slowly turn into deeds. Not quite so much sex - in fact it isn't until chapter 19 that there's M/F action and that continues until there's a M/F/M incident and only twice is there any full F/M/M/M action which is dealt with in such a touching, emotional, loving way that it's a tender act of love and never thought of as a sleazy act.
There's also the tension as the threats and incidents mount up by the stalker which puts added pressure on the blossoming feelings of the four lovers which eventually caused unnecessary misgivings, misunderstandings and added stress. Even when the identity of the stalker is eventually uncovered it was the emotion of sadness and regret that overwhelmed everyone and was the catalyst to a perfect ending.
Would have liked a 'happily ever after' epilogue 10/20 years later with a ceremony, kids and parenthood - but hey that's just me being needy and greedy I guess and we can all dream!
Worth a credit? Well Maya if you keep writing to this standard then I'll keep buying - so my answer is a HELL YEAH.
For two years Finnely had been happily in love with her High School sweetheart Colin but the rat b'stard broke her heart with a mere 'it's not working out' note and that's when Jordan swooped in, claimed, possessed and married her. But 17 years later her dreams had turned to dust, leaving her empty and knowing things must change..... but not all change is good because along with it came distress, drama and danger.
This was an enjoyable, but frustrating, listen with good narration from dual POV's - there was numbness as a marriage ended, sizzling chemistry as two once young friends reconnected, reacquainted and rekindled. Now, as experienced adults, hot hot passion, dirty thoughts and talk ignite as they bonded and then heartbreak as their HEA all went up in smoke. But I said frustrating because there was a lot of each person's internal dialogue rather than joint dialogue which sadly lost it a star for me.
Worth a credit? It was an entertaining hot contemporary listen about a sexy fireman getting a second chance at love with no cliffhanger ending and yes, IMHO, a creditworthy listen.
Before I started this second instalment of Miller and Livy's tumultuous, all consuming and intense love affair I thought I'd quickly go back and refresh myself by dipping into a few chapters from book 1. Oh how wrong I was!, because once I started that all consuming and tortuous listen again I was so engrossed, so enraptured and so totally hooked on it (for the second time) that I just had to, yes HAD to, listen to every word, ever paragraph and every chapter all over again, but this time with the joyful knowledge that I already had book 2 lined up ready to immediately follow it. However, NEVER EVER did I think that this second book could surpass book 1 with it's raw passion, with it's seismic sexual intensity, with it's gripping scenes, with it's deep and unerring beauty, with it's shocking discoveries and with it's jaw-dropping cliffhanger..... but it did.
I am in awe of these books, their creator and the narrator - a literature listener's Holy Trinity - and I have just pre-ordered book 3 already knowing that when 02-10-15 comes around..... no matter what book I'll be listening to, it'll be abandoned so I can relish the final instalment of Miller and Livy's romantic journey, a journey that's been heartbreaking, heart stopping and heartpoundingly brilliant.
Worth a credit? I've used three credits on this trilogy and what I got back was pure undisputed, unforgettable and undiluted magic.... so YES YES and YES every one was, and will be, worth it.
What a great start to a new series - the action kicks off from the start when handsome Cop James finally tracks down his missing K9 Partner Bogart to a secluded cabin and what he also finds there is Shay who's a sassy sexy spitfire. The tension is high and so is the chemistry but neither one will admit it but James' Cop instincts are on high alert because he knows things aren't what they seem...... and everything snowballs from there.
A very entertaining complex plot which quickly developed as two ex's cause grief and mayhem and a strong heroine who is haunted by a tragic past which makes her insecure and vulnerable and she badly needs a Prince to save her...... even if he's got four legs! It's an action-packed exciting thriller with twists, suspense, drama, danger, sex and a romance that gets tested before it's hardly begun.
Constantly changing dual POV's which was good rather than alternating chapter by chapter views and JK's narration made this a very enjoyable listen.
Worth a credit? It was far fetched fiction at it's finest and just what I hoped for and love..... so I've no regrets using a credit on this listen and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next doggie disaster.
Erin is desperate and her last hope is Ivan the intimidating tattooed Russian but she'll do nearly anything to save her sister Rose from the hole of drugs and bad choices that she's dug herself. When tough guy Ivan first lays eyes on Erin the games over because he knows he'll do anything and risk everything to keep her safe.... and hopefully keep her for himself too.
This listen was under 3 hrs but it packed a lot in as it sucks you into the seedy world Rose has gotten herself in where the Mexican gang, Albanian gang and now the Russians are all after her. So Erin's frustration and desperation rises but the one person she can now depend on is Ivan. The romance is tender hot and quick but it has to be, the excitement is high as the bad guys come for Erin and Erin can see that underneath Ivan's gruff exterior, and his previous mob life, lies the heart of a teddy bear.
Great narration and well worth the $4.86.... just wish it had been longer.
Dimitri has secretly loved Bakery owner Benny for years and, without her knowledge, has been helping with her business and with her brother who has joined a street gang. But slowly things start to implode for Benny when a greedy developer starts pressurising her to sell up and her brother gets out of hand.... so who's she going to turn to..... yup her hunky sexy Russian tenant. Dimitri has a security business, a lot of unsavory connections and is very skilled at gang/street warfare and he also can't keep his hands off Benny and Benny is very willing to surrender herself to her tender dirty talking dominant Russian.
Great listen, very exciting, fast-paced, sexy, romantic, with a hot alpha hero and an interesting cast of secondary characters. It's well-written, clever, has a plot that hooks you right in, there's humor, sex and drama too to add to the mix and the narrator did a great job in brining all together to make a very enjoyable listen.
Worth a credit? Yes and I'm now going back to get Ivan (book1) so I can hear all the backstory.
It's so sad, when you've been following a fantastic series and have been giving it 5 star glowing reviews and you're excited to then get the next book in the series and slowly you think "what happened?" Because you just don't connect with either the H/H or the plot. The Summary sounded good, it should have been good but I hate to say it but, for me, it was missing depth, chemistry and excitement. Was this one rushed? because it's the shortest book so far.
Montana and Lauren's relationship started off very casual.... no strings sex and it slowly developed into them both wanting much more but just as things settled down for them there was a secret that Lauren was keeping which, IMHO, wasn't shocking and Montana totally overreacted about. She left it too late to spill and the consequences weren't pretty.
Told from both POV's but sadly even the good narration couldn't stir up much interest for me.
Worth a credit? If you're a fan of the series and have been following the rest of the band's stories (as I have) then of course it's a must have listen and yes creditworthy. But if not, it was just a little bit blah for me.
This is a romance that shouldn't have worked.... a handsome, bodylicious 34 yr old Navy SEAL and a pregnant widowed mother of four..... but together they made it work. Through their initial holiday attraction and flirtation, their separations, her insecurities, his missions and the broken promises yet somehow these two people connected, overcame, found love and became a beautiful family of six.... then seven.
Worth a credit? A good start to this new series with loveable characters (especially the children), a great story with a little angst and a heartwarming HEA easily made this an enjoyable, romantic and creditworthy listen.
Although this isn't my favorite in the series and it was a very hard and heart wrenching book to listen to, I have to give it 5 stars because a) child abuse and it's effects in later life must have been a very harrowing topic for the author to research, b) a brave thing to write about and c) then to successfully spin it into a tormented, tortuous tender love story took a very talented author. But she did it...... in this listen JBS captured the heartbreak, the denial, the anger, the physical and psychological effects so well and the narrators brilliantly brought it all to gut wrenching life.
Two young abused children then reunited when they're mentally damaged adults sharing a bond only one remembers then terrible secrets, brutal shocking discoveries, revelations, twists and turns, heartbreak and drug abuse mainly set in a Fight Club/MC Club/Bar. But it also has it's beautiful and tender times too when they first became lovers and then again after all the explosive drama of the betrayal was eventually forgiven and finally when the traumatic life/death struggle was over.
Worth a credit? It's a heartbreaking, haunting and harrowing journey, the ride was action-packed and the final destination was imperfectly perfect for these two scarred souls. Definitely worth the credit IF, and only IF, you can listen to hinted brief glimpses of child sex abuse (because it doesn't go into graphic detail) but it's the mental trauma and damage that'll bring you to tears.
Wow, what a great new well-written and described Sci-Fi world.... one where (if you're picked to be their Bride) you're idolized, pampered and petted by huge, hunky, handsome Kindred Warriors who only want to make you happy and have lots and lots and lots of sex with you. There are three types - Beast Kindred who have an extra 'endowment' guaranteed to blow your mind - Blood Kindred who have fangs and Twin Kindred who come in pairs (literally). Baird, who's a Beast Warrior, chose Olivia but she didn't go willingly and isn't happy about leaving everything behind so Baird has one month to change her mind.... through sexual foreplay broken down into week by week degrees of intimacy until (hopefully) the 'bonding'.
You get sucked into this fascinating fantasy world and can see the dilemma they each face and feel bad for them both because sacrifices must eventually be made. It's touching, romantic and also funny at times, has a few interesting secondary characters and there's an evil alien species called the Scrouge who happily cause pain and suffering and it seems like they will continue to play a part in the ongoing storyline. However, the main focus is on the 'claiming' as Baird tries everything in his sexual arsenal to win over Olivia..... and what an arsenal he's got - visual, verbal, sensory, mental and very very physical.
Dual POV's and the narrator nicely brought each character to life, emphasized feelings and delivered a very enjoyable Audiobook.
Worth a credit? Right from chapter one I was hooked and couldn't wait to hear just how these two loveable characters would finally work things out. I'm looking forward to all the other books in this very hot and very creditworthy series.
I really hope Audible gets more books by this author because she really knows how to write a beautiful haunting love story and this one's between Johnny Outlaw a drool-worthy famous Rocker and Holliday a successful independent businesswoman. But when they first meet she refreshingly doesn't recognize him so he goes by the name Jack Dalton to shed his fame and reputation. Their relationship is challenged by all that life can throw at it.... insecurities, distance, fame, drugs, temptations, misunderstandings, jealously, demons from the past and a tragic death but their connection, ever growing bond and the deep enduring need for each other comes across so strongly.
Their chance meeting, instant connection and intense one night stand captured me but what kept me enthralled was the passion, strength and commitment that they had for each other which was so moving because you really feel these two loveable characters deserve to be together and get their HEA. There's raw need, fun and laughter, joy and tears, lots of heartfelt sex, touching and romantic words, heartache and drama and there's also growth, understanding and support. Then, at the end of their journey, stands two strong and loving people who've been through emotional Hell but their beautiful destination was so worth the ride.
Mainly told from Holli's POV and the narrator was the cherry on top of an already stuffed cake because she breathed life into each and every chapter.
Worth a credit? This is a book that leaves it's mark as I'll be in a 'book hangover' funk all day and in no hurry to start another book because I want to savor and relive this one a bit more..... so YES, a very very creditworthy romance.
