Violent, implausible, thoroughly enjoyed it! Demented take on social issues. A very warped social commentary. I don't care still found it funny, offbeat and kinda funny in a dark bleak way.

But office politics quickly become trivial when a rash of underworld murders shatters London's normally austere façade. With a growing list of successfully solved cases to her name, the ever-dauntless Doyle shakes off the gossip and sets out to investigate the escalating turf war.

This is the second in the series, just terrible, completely and totally terrible. A clone of the first making what was a little quirky and potentially interesting if developed, completely boring and creepy.

To supplement his income - and keep his hand in - Charlie has a small side business: stealing for a very discreet clientele on commission. When a mysterious American offers Charlie 20,000 euros to steal two small monkey figurines to match the one he already has, Charlie is suspicious; the job seems too good to be true, and of course, it is. He soon finds the American beaten nearly to death, while the third figurine has disappeared.

Just okay, I don't see myself following this series. Very little to hold my attention it was a little too predictable. I enjoy cozies and this is a cozy type, not my cup of tea.

Simon Vance is great as usual and may be the only thing that kept it interesting.

The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a fairly typical all-girls school - that is, it would be if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses, but it's really a school for spies.

Bought for a road trip with my 12 year old niece. I feel very silly, but I liked the 2 we listened to in the series. They were cute and sweet great tween books that aren't full of sex or violence. I was not bored or annoyed to listen.

"The Secret Place", a board where the girls at St Kilda's School can pin up their secrets anonymously, is normally a mishmash of gossip and covert cruelty, but today someone has used it to reignite the stalled investigation into the murder of handsome, popular Chris Harper. Stephen joins forces with the abrasive Detective Antoinette Conway to find out who and why.

I don't know what to say here. The book wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I have come to expect from Tana French. The outline is good, a nice idea but it just was not very fleshed out, a little sloppy and vacant.

My excitement at seeing there was a new French book was meet with disappointment upon listening. Again not that it was bad, maybe my expectations were too high.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows.

There are things that grated. Everyone is giving this outstanding reviews with respect to the writing and story but it isn't perfect. It is darn good, very entertaining but not great literature, just good reading and listening. Well worth the credit. Just something...typical? cliché is too strong a word, don't know what it is, thats for actual critics, hahaha. I'll just say that while there was something it was still a good listen.

Can't wait for another book, great story. Character development continues bringing Catherine a little more personality and depth. Warming her up a little. A little more violence, but still way down for today's standards.

I don't want to give anything away so I'm not saying much. I like that even though it deals with violence and serious stuff, the story never becomes moody or gloomy. Serious, sometimes a little sad, but also spots of humor, like real life. Not swedish gloom noir.

I hated to reach the end.

Actress turned private investigator Jasmine Sharp has become accustomed to clients looking for long-lost relatives, so when a woman hires her to find her younger sister Tessa Garrion, Jasmine presumes the case will be relatively straightforward. The assignment takes her back into the world of professional theater, where she is warned off more than once for probing too deeply into the past. Meanwhile, Detective Superintendent and mother-of-two Catherine McLeod is called to the scene of a murder in the Highlands.

Publishers summary is good idea of the storyline.

I really enjoyed the continuing character development and interwoven storylines. Past present, different walks of life. A nice change from serial killers r us. A real mystery book that doesnt try to be too deep and brooding and has moments of humor.

Jasmine continues to impress me as a a herione, not some glamorous unrealistic hollywood sterotype and not some uber tough chick.

Great listen unless you have a hard time with accents. I enjoyed wvwry minute.

When small-time heroin dealer Jai McDiarmid turns up dead one fine Glasgow morning, no one is that surprised - he'd been sleeping with a drug trafficker's girlfriend and had made himself a lot of enemies - so many, in fact, that Detective Superintendent Catherine McLeod doesn't know where to start when she is assigned to the case.

I listened to the three available in as many days.

Publishers summary was accurate without giving anything away. I enjoyed the style of writing and the way he leads you to think the obvious may be true, but never lets you believe. The characters are so well written, flawed a litle cliché but then a cliché is what it is for a reason. Some violence mostly though its just alluded to or very much toned down. Very little in the way of graphic detail, but some.

My favorite element is that even though Jasmine starts out a little bit of the wee damsel in distress, , you can see she has more grit. This is very much in evidence in the second and third books. Knowing your limitations doesn't always mean you're weak.

    A nice quality read, FINALLY.
