This book came together in so many ways. The narrators were excellent. It didn't bother me that the book went back and forth between the two time periods. It was well done. I hope my mind is as sharp at 90 (or 93).
Some books you never want to end, some you can't finish, and some don't end ... they just stop. This one could not have had a more perfect ending ... and I never saw it coming. It was a wonderful surprise.
This was the best listen I've had all year.
This is a trashy, "tell all" type book. I was hoping for an autobiography.
The cover picture is OK.
I really don't care if she went to Sammy Davis Jr's house and he had "lines of cocaine on every table and porn playing on tv", or that amyl nitrates enhanced her orgasms, and I REALLY don't want to know how she knows her stepson's (David Cassidy) penis is bigger than his father's (Jack Cassidy). This is simply a narcissistic, salacious tale about a woman who was handed a career on a silver platter.
If the purpose of this book is to completely annihilate her reputation as an "American Sweetheart", then congratulations. Mission accomplished.
Have no idea who would enjoy it.
No. I love the genre and typically like the author. This book was so bad, I seriously wonder if Coonts simply received a check for allowing someone to use his name. There are five separate plot lines running simultaneously and none are wrapped up at the end. It's almost as if the author realized the story was getting long and only had one chapter left to finish the book.
Different characters require different voices, and those voices should stay the same throughout the story. I found myself on MANY occasions rewinding because I didn't realize he had switched characters. There were also many instances where the accent for a character switched in the same scene.
I listen to books while traveling. This one put me to sleep on the plane so often that I thought perhaps I didn't like it because I was only getting a few pages at a time before I'd nod off. I decided to try it AGAIN while making an 8 hr drive, thinking it would be easier to follow. It WAS easier, but only because the traffic on the freeway kept me awake.
Do you enjoy having the dictionary read to you? Have you longed for an Audible book that will read the entire NY Metro phone book to you -- Yellow Pages and all? Perhaps the transcripts from the annual convention of toll-booth collectors are to your liking!
Well this book is for you. Ajay will read charts and menus to you -- mostly. There is some smart advice in here, but nothing I didn't already know and certainly didn't need someone to preach at me. And that's exactly the way it comes off, NOT personal, just preachy. Do it because SHE SAYS SO!
Sorry, but I am very disappointed because her first book was passionately personal and inspiring. I was hoping for more that that.
I kept getting the impression that she was reading SOMEONE else's work. Her first book was from the heart. This one could have come out of a fat & calorie guidelines book.
Sadly disappointing because she is talented; her first book proved that.
