  • Made to Crave: Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, Not Food

Made to Crave is the missing link between a woman's desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen. The reality is we were made to crave. Craving isn't a bad thing. But we must realize God created us to crave more of him. Many of us have misplaced that craving by overindulging in physical pleasures instead of lasting spiritual satisfaction.

I've done it all Weight Watchers, phone apps, fuel bad, you name it. As the author points out, we don't need a "how to". We all know portion control, the food pyramid, physical representation of ounces. We needed a "want to". And though I have even said myself that it is similar to an addiction though you can't stop eating. I had never truly looked at it as a true addiction, or better defined as a loss of power and a focus, devotion, to food. I can't attempt to explain because I won't do it justice. I am saying that when I framed it in relation to God and my commitment to not allow myself to participate in any addictive behaviors it became very easy to change my entire mindset. I have quit smoking as I realized it was controlling me, I don't go to casinos as I can feel the discomfort of the compulsion coming on and it sickens me. Now understand the role food is playing currently in my life, through this book I am changing the addictive behaviors. Taking on cravings as a cue to prayer is the perfect solution. Thank you so much for this book and it's companion the devotional!!!!

Pirriwee Public's annual school Trivia Night has ended in a shocking riot. One parent is dead. The school principal is horrified. As police investigate what appears to have been a tragic accident, signs begin to indicate that this devastating death might have been cold-blooded murder. In this thought-provoking novel, number-one New York Times best-selling author Liane Moriarty deftly explores the reality of parenting and playground politics, ex-husbands and ex-wives, and fractured families.

I really looked forward to and enjoyed this book. I really liked The Husband's Secret and this was as good and probably better. Great character development and suspense built in. So much suspense that I gobbled it right up and now I miss reading it. I hate it when I do that.

When a 14-year-old runs away, her parents turn to social media to find her - launching a public campaign that will expose their darkest secrets and change their family forever in this suspenseful and gripping debut for fans of Reconstructing Amelia and Gone Girl. Don't try to find me. Though the message on the kitchen white board is written in Marley’s hand, her mother Rachel knows there has to be some other explanation. Marley would never run away.

The story is a good idea and believable. However, the girls vocabulary and understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and psychology was stretched a bit far. I know they tried to convince us it was only because she'd been in therapy (3 years ago) so she was 11? They should have made her older to fit the vocab, but couldn't to fit the naivety. And I guess it could be considered good writing that the guy was so creepy I felt like a co-conspirator reading it and so it was creepy (not in a good way) to continue. But there were so many unanswered questions I did want to finish it to see how it worked out. This is when I really was upset as the writer jumped, skipped stepped and waved a magic wand for it to all come to an end.

The story happening is not unbelievable, but the characters are unbelievable only because half the time we are suppose to believe she's wise beyond her years and the other half that she's sheltered and easily swayed. And the guy his character was all over the map and to believe he was as sinister as he was, he never would have done what he did at the end. I am probably adding to the intrigue to reading it, but I am just not trying to be a spoiler. This is not a good read, it makes little sense, and leaves more questions than answers even with its time lapse to the past for explanations, leaving more questions. Don't bother, you won't know much more than you know right now.

For Kate Klein, suburbia's been full of unpleasant surprises. Her once-loving husband is hardly ever home. The supermommies on the playground routinely snub her. Her days are spent carpooling, and at night, most of her orgasms are of the do-it-yourself variety. So when a fellow mother is murdered, Kate finds that the unsolved mystery is one of the most interesting things to happen in Upchurch. She launches an unofficial investigation with the help of two friends and discovers the secrets and lies behind the town's placid picket-fence facade....

This was okay and perhaps if I read the abridge version I would have enjoyed it more. Whai i liked about her other work was it's realism and taking on of real issues. This was less of that and probably would have not encouraged me to read her other work if this was the book I started with.

Cannie Shapiro never wanted to be famous. The smart, sharp, plus-sized pop culture reporter was perfectly content writitng about other people's lives in the pages of the Philadlphia Examiner. But the day she opened up a national women's magazine to find out that her ex-boyfriend has been chronicling their ex-sex life is the day her life changes forever.

The narration was the only distraction but not horrible. It's tough when one narrator tries to add life to a book through changes voices for male and female characters, so given the task at hand she did well. The story was good and kept me engaged. Ilove the authors continous use of diversity throughout all her books without drawing attention to it. And the variety of relevant issues is handled in an honest and sarcastic way. Not too slick and sweet or in your face. Perfect blend of humor and realism.

The authors writing was authentic and funny sarcastic and engaging. I caed about the characters right away becasue they were real. The score of this book is based on it's genre. This may not be a literary masterpiece. It is easily digestable and enjoyable look at a very serious subjst. Taking on topics that are taboo, our dirty little secrets, and presenting them in a way that opens up dialog and raises questions and attention to a serious topic is difficult to do without turning people off. This was the perfect mix of fun and whimsy and informative. I am so excited to find a new author (to me) and see the potential to read severla other works. My only disappointment is that the narrator doesn't have more to listen to. She was absolutley perfect, she lent some changes in her voice for the differing characters but didn't get so caught up in that, to have it become cheesy ( a common mistake). She was flawless. And in truth I went in search of her other works first before I look for more under the author. A lot of people can wirte but a bad narrator can mess the whole Audible process up. Thank you both for a very enjoyable listen. Literally, I did not put it down. I listened from start to finish!

The breathy of dramatic male narrator and his band of breathy characters made me gag through most of the book until the last few chapters when I actually wanted to see how it ended. The book was even written well enough for me to have bothered. I have no idea what book the reviewers were writing about but I hung in there because of the reviews and was really excited to find a great author with multiple titles. I listen to about 5 books a month so I am always searching for a great author. And then to see the same narrator narrated something else. And yes I listened to the preview but it's hard to generalize to the whole book when you listen out of context. If you get this book remember you've been warned, you'll want to scratch your eyes (or ears out) having to listen to the deep dramatic breathy pauses about putting on his socks and then tying his shoes (not a real example but it's about that mundane).

It is January 1944 - and as Allied troops prepare for D day, Nazi scientists develop a toxic nerve gas that will repel and wipe out any invasion force. To salvage the planned assault, two vastly different but equally determined men are sent to infiltrate the secret concentration camp where the poison gas is being perfected on human subjects. I am very interested in the topic. However it feels like a textbook or technical journal rather than a story or work of fiction. I haven't gotten very far, but that says a lot I gobble up books when they're good.
