This was one of my favorite books I've ever purchased from Audible. The narration doesn't get better than this in audiobooks, and the story is nothing short of classic and a truly wonderful coming of age story. Excellent book I highly recommend it for anyone at any age.
I really am enjoying this book. Just downloading the third part now. Unique subject - the lives of black maids working in wealthy white households during the civil rights movement describing the sensitive and, at times, moving relationships they have with their white employers. I adore all the characters, expecially Minnie. I am always a big fan of well narrated books, and this book is very well done. Bravo readers!
Entertaining. Bill Bryson is one of my favorite authors, and I love books where the author is the narrator. Bill Bryson's enormous talent as a wordsmith is apparent here. However, this book is not as good as others he's written. It didn't have the level of childlike spirit I thought it would, and I thought the main character was a bit cynical for a kid.
This is one of those books that I got so engrossed in that I ended up listening to the whole book in one day. The plot flows remarkably well and offers up some very interesting ideas re Da Vinci's artwork and philosophies. I recommend this book highly for anyone who likes quickly moving plots and interesting perhaps even controversial ideas regarding art and religion.
