This was an easy read, the author's New Jersey humor pleasant. However, as hard as I tried to suspend disbelief at the end, I just couldn't buy the viability of who did the murder and how it was possible, much less the cop's response. I will still continue to read the books regardless for their entertainment and escape value. Amanda Ronconi did a good job narrating.
I enjoy a focus on fantasy adventure with a bit a romance, rather than a focus on romance with a bit of adventure. I wish books were rated more like movies. I don't enjoy porn, even soft. It's not that I'm a prude, I just prefer enjoying first hand experience rather than reading about it. So I had to keep fast forwarding through many, many parts of this book, which was annoying. I guess I need more experience at reading between the lines in the publisher's review. The book seemed long, probably due to all the sex scenes. The writing was fine, though, so I gave it 3 stars. If you enjoy this sort of thing, then I recommend it. If you don't, now you know. :-)
I felt like I was watching an artist paint, stroke by loving stroke, unique and fascinating characters onto an exquisite landscape. I laughed and I cried. I also enjoyed learning more about Botany and Gilbert's take on Darwinism. I loved the idea that God provides plants to help or heal the human body--with visual clues, such as a walnut looks like a brain and helps the brain. This book is amazing work; I don't know how she did it, but hats off to her!
P.S. Warning, it does get a bit sad and depressing in some places, but I managed to push through those parts. However, since I hate to feel depressed even for a moment I did mark it down a point.
The first half was an introduction to a romance story, ghosts didn't come in until much later. The ghosts were okay. I listened to this at 1.5 speed to get through it faster. I'm hoping now that all the groundwork has been done, the next book will have more action and less angst.
Strong woman, great friends, witty humor, and fast moving plot. She's the perfect assassin. Sit back and enjoy the fantasy! Narrator is perfect.
Mattie is definitely a fun heroine! The book is great mind candy for a sweet escape. I was entertained throughout and loved every minute! The narrator read it perfectly, with the right level of wit, sarcasm and mortification in her voice. I'm looking forward to the next book!
Savannah is a loyal friend, passionate investigator and an absolute hoot! The plot takes you on the usual wild ride of twists and turns and yet another crazy sister lands on her door step. A very enjoyable cozy read. Love the relationship between her and Dirk.
Another good cozy read with Savannah not only solving murder(s) but hosting yet another dysfunctional visitor. It's fun listening to her southern witticisms and sarcasm and appreciating the relationship she has with Dirk more and more.
Have I said how I like getting lost in Savannah's world? Such a delight, and this time with a real hunk and an ending with a twist! Her books are like dessert after heavy reading material. They're quick and easy to read as well as fun!
I love losing myself in Savannah's world, particularly in between other darker series. It lightens my mood! Dealing with yet another crazed sibling, I can't help but wonder when Savannah will, once and for all, deal with the angst that runs in her family. Until then, they definitely provide a lot of entertainment.
Another good cozy read. I like to read these books between particularly dark books. They're like a late night dessert. In this book, we get to know more of Savannah's dysfunctional family and appreciate her strength even further as she determinedly seeks justice for all. Not a traditional detective novel, most of the important discoveries are through lucky timing, yet it's still fun to watch her in action. I look forward to more of the series.
