A very intriguing time travel story -- to the time of Jesus. This is not a hit-over-the-head religious story. It's just a darn good story. Narration is phenomenal. Kudos to all!
Lots of fun; delightful premise. What a lark of a listen! Fantastical, but you enjoy the journey anyway!
Delightful! Spiritual! And, a great story! Wonderful story. Excellent narration. Hated for it to end. What else can I say?
How do you know what's going on in the mind of someone who has limited intelligence? This book gives powerful insight into that experience -- and the prejudices that accompany such a life. Yes, this is a winner of a book.
Wow, super-smart blind girl in WWII. Charming story; good narration. A good listen for sure.
Wein's voice keeps you hooked into the story told by a captured WWII Scottish female spy. Told in the first person, I kept wondering where this was all going -- then came the twist! So well crafted a story line. I really enjoyed this book. Not the best I've heard, but right up there with books well worth my time.
This beautifully narrated story tells of an extraordinary woman who was determined to survive in spite of what the Nazis did to her and her family. Told in the first person, the listener gains detailed knowledge of what it was like for a Jewish woman to survive WWII. The narrator's accent in this reading gives the listener the feeling that you are literally listening to Sara herself.
I've always been fascinated by maps -- old and new. This little gem of a book enriched my understanding and knowledge of maps. AND, it's a great story about how Smiley got away with theft after theft before he was caught.
Okay, take a great story and write it with skill. You get a great book. BUT now add superb narration and you simply cannot stop listening. This book is like a series of short stories, but with the same characters. I was amazed that Irving has probably 40+ characters in this book -- but I was never confused. He has a gift for the right word, the right metaphor. His characters are rich and deep. Owen Meany touched my spirit in so many ways -- I find myself imitating him (yes, it is a little embarrassing...).
This goes on my list of all time best books ever read. Thank you John Irving; thank you Joe Barrett.
When my husband rides in my car, he gets to listen to a story where ever I am in the book. A Dangerous Fortune is so good that he started asking me for updates because he'd missed parts -- then he started discussing the characters and their motivation. Yup, a good book for sure. A wonderful multi-generation story -- top notch narration. Thoroughly engrossing.
