Based on extensive insider interviews and participation, acclaimed author Ben Mezrich's Straight Flush tells the captivating rags-to-riches tale of a group of University of Montana frat brothers who turned a weekly poker game in the basement of a local dive bar into AbsolutePoker.com, one of the largest online companies in the world. But then the U.S. Department of Justice placed a bull's-eye on Absolute Poker. Did they fold - or double down and ride their hot hand?

Would you try another book from Ben Mezrich and/or Sean Pratt?

I have read other Ben Mezrich's books, and I enjoy them. I don't think I would listen to another Sean Pratt book.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I would have liked the book to go deeper into the cheating scandals, and how/ why/ when the company opted not to separate player money from the operating funds of the company. This book only gives part of a chapter to the UB cheating scandal. It would have been much better to understand what the AP brass found out about who was cheating, when and why.

The book seemed to be more focused on the the parties, drugs, and girls, less on how the Absolute Bet company was built.

What didn’t you like about Sean Pratt’s performance?

Just didn't care for the tone, and pace of the read.

What else would you have wanted to know about Ben Mezrich’s life?

umm.... This isn't a biography of Ben Mezirch. Not sure what do say here.

    Any additional comments?

I would like to see Ben do a follow up on the Full Tilt Poker/ Pokerstars stories, and focus on how all three of these companies came up in the business.

The tsunami of cheap credit that rolled across the planet between 2002 and 2008 was more than a simple financial phenomenon: it was temptation, offering entire societies the chance to reveal aspects of their characters they could not normally afford to indulge. The Greeks wanted to turn their country into a pinata stuffed with cash and allow as many citizens as possible to take a whack at it. The Germans wanted to be even more German; the Irish wanted to stop being Irish.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Listening to the book was time spent that would have otherwise been wasted for me. I found the stories to be informative, but I don't think they have any practical application or lesson for me. All they seemed to do, was point out that many governments have a very long road ahead of them if they are ever going to be solvent again.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I found the section on Greece and it's people to be most interesting. Sad to say but it confirmed some stereotypes that already had and put much of the coverage that I had seen on CNBC in to better context.

The part I found least interesting was the chapter on Germany and the German people's (or maybe it was just Michael's) obsession with solid human waste. I understand the point he was making about clean and orderly outside, and dirty inside, but I felt his approach was low brow.

What about Dylan Baker’s performance did you like?

Dylan has one of the most unique vocal sounds and styles I've ever heard. Refreshing.

Could you see Boomerang being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I would hope not. I don't think I would see this as a movie. Not really a story line that takes to the big screen.

    Any additional comments?

I would rate this book as just fair. I have really enjoyed Mr. Lewis' previous non-fiction works like The Big Short, but this one didn't hit the same spot. Still looking forward to his next work.

In the midst of the Go-Go '90s, the culture of greed infused the MIT campus. A small blackjack club sprang up, dedicated to counting cards and beating the house at major casinos around the country. The Club grew slowly at first, but by the late 1990s, the right people had come up with the right system to take some of the world's most sophisticated casinos for all they were worth.

What would have made 21 better?

Im not sure. I didn't care for the reading at all, but the story could have played out faster

Has 21 turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I really in enjoy this genre and this author.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment. I have really enjoyed other Ben Mezrich has authored, and this will not turn me off to other Mezrich book, but I this story just didn't do it for me.

    Any additional comments?

    |One of the few times that I can say I really enjoyed movie more than the book.

Based on hundreds of interviews with the people who lived the story, Game Change is a reportorial tour de force that reads like a fast-paced novel. Character driven and dialogue rich, replete with extravagantly detailed scenes, this is the occasion-ally shocking, often hilarious, ultimately definitive account of the campaign of a lifetime.

    Story

This is a very good telling of the 2007/2008 campaign season. I've read a few books about on this topic, and all of the accounts and stories in Game Change line up (for the most part). There are very good insight into many aspects of the trail not perviousy talk about.

I would put the bias needle right at about 50/50 here. John Heilemann and Mark Halperin do a great job keeping it fair.
